Capitalism loves exhaustion. If they can't break your will to fight, they'll try to sap all your energy to fight. "Productivity" isn't the real reason capitalists impose long hours, punishing commutes, and paltry PTO. They've seen the data that proves burnout decreases productivity. They just know that, like worker despair, worker exhaustion is a key bulwark of the status quo.

And then they sell the workforce a bunch of meds and stimulants so they can keep working when broken inside.

The principle that you should ascribe things to incompetence before malice is instructive here.

Capitalism has a ton of structural problems and that does lead to a lot of exhausted people, but these are issues with corporatism and the focus on short term gains among other problems, it is not part of a grand conspiracy among capital holders.

It's reassuring inna way to think our issues are based on a bad man in a smoke filled room rather than based on deep structural incentives and the random chaos of life.

Many people confuse capitalism and fascist corporatism. I’ll be that guy and say that just as we have never had a truly communist society, we’ve never had a truly capitalist society either.

They had markets in the 1500s but the overall structure of the economy was very different. There is a lot more to capitalism than free markets

People seem to confuse "trade" and "capitalism" all the time.

They're not synonymous. Even if the country was totally socialist, there would still be trade.
