I was working  in an adult novelty store and had saved 257 job points. The company was sold and I had to find another job. I took a teacher job while looking for alternative employment, when I started my new job in mining I found I no longer had my job points. Is this how the game works or is it an issue?

Job points are specific to the job/company type, the don't transfer and aren't lost.

 

If you join another AN you will have your 257 JP still.

 

But AN JP is different than say pub JP. they're all accumulated separately and aren't transferable between different company/job types.

As mentioned above, your Adult Novelty Store job points can only be used in an Adult Novelty Store. You can join another Adult Novelty Store and use those job points. You cannot use them in Mining Corporation.
