17th of may this year marks the 211th day of Norway's constitution, written in 1814 at Eidsvoll. Although not our first constitution, the first introduced in the 900s (Gulatingloven) by the vikings, we only celebrate the constitution from 1814, where Norway was liberated from the union with Denmark. Behind the scenes, in Moss, there was however a transfer of power from Denmark to Sweden happening at the same time, so the complete independence from any nation didn't come until 7th of June, 1905.
That said, Sweden didn't control Norway like Denmark did, and it was for the most part just a union on paper, with no conflict.
Contrary to most countries, our children are the ones to march down the streets, not the military or a show of strength, but a show of peace and the importance of the next generation. And with that, hipp hipp hurra!
