This is the eternal debate.  The answer is "it depends".  There are factors both in favor and against happy jumps, so it is important to understand the pros and cons.  Here are the basic factors as I've come to know them:

Pros:

*Your battle stats will rise MUCH faster than they could otherwise (doing them regularly will put you months ahead in terms of progress).

*Higher stats values equate to higher gym gains for normal training outside of happy jumps.

*You will be able to perform/defend against muggings far more quickly

*You will reach a viable stat total for faction wars far more quickly (and therefore be able to start making more income off of wars)

Cons:

*Extremely expensive, to the point that you will greatly delay your progressive toward owning key income-earning investments, such as a maxed out bank

*The Xanax stacking you do for each happy jump will result in less energy overall being trained in the gym (if using donator status, stacking a full 1000e bar will miss out on AT MINIUMUM 750 energy regeneration), which will delay your progression of unlocking new gyms, which will cut AGAINST the gains you make in normal training (though I think this point is partially/completely canceled out due to the additional gains received from elevated stat totals).

*The extreme cost you spend will necessitate additional means of income to fund the jumps, which most likely will boil down to either purchasing extra donator packs with IRL money, or selling a bunch of losses (the latter of which will make your normal training take a hit, and also further delay the rate at which you unlock gyms).

*The timing for xan stacking, along with fitting the jump precisely into a 15 minute window can be tedious, and the way you are essentially unable to use energy for a day and a half is boring/annoying.

*If you OD on one of the latter stacks of xan, or the ecstasy at the jump itself, you will lose all that time/energy/money invested in the jump (though, buying jump insurance can recover the money part at least if you choose to pay a little extra).

There are solid reasons to jump, and to not jump.  I personally did end up jumping a lot, and the results were quite good for me, but it was a lot of work, and a lot of patience, and a lot of money, and that just isn't the kind of game some people want to deal with.

Regardless of whether you jump, or don't jump, your friend is correct about the part where you should use Xanax, because taking as much Xanax as possible will be the strongest factor deciding how fast your battlestats progress in this game.
