Hey everyone,

I’ve been noticing a concerning trend in the Points Market lately—the prices have been dropping steadily, with points now hovering around 35k-40k each, down from the more stable 45k+ floor we used to see. This deflation seems tied to lower overall demand for points, possibly due to fewer new players injecting fresh points via donations, nerfs to the market mechanics, and a general saturation where veteran players aren’t consuming points as aggressively for refills, packs, or other perks. It’s hurting sellers, donors, and the in-game economy as a whole, making it less incentivizing for people to donate and keep the game funded.

To address this, I have a suggestion that could reinvigorate points demand while also balancing gameplay for SSL (Sports Science Laboratory) users: Introduce a new stat enhancer item purchasable exclusively with points, designed specifically for SSL gameplay and comparable in effectiveness to Xanax for non-SSL users.

Why This Fixes the Points Demand Issue

•  Targeted Incentive for SSL Players: SSL training is a respected path in Torn, offering unique gym gains and a “clean” playstyle, but it comes with strict limits on drug use (e.g., total Xanax and Ecstasy must stay under a certain threshold—typically 50 each for merits without losing SSL access). This means SSL users can’t spam Xanax for massive energy boosts and faster stat progression like non-SSL players can. A points-bought enhancer would give SSL folks a way to compete on training speed without breaking their drug limits, encouraging them to buy points regularly.

•  Increased Consumption: If this enhancer costs, say, 10-20 points per use (adjustable for balance), it could create ongoing demand. Players committed to SSL (snipers, ops teams, or just purists) would stock up, pulling points out of circulation and stabilizing/pricing up the market. This mirrors how energy refills drive demand but targets an underserved group.

•  Broader Economic Ripple: More points demand means higher prices, which incentivizes donations. It could also reduce the “pay-to-win” feel for non-SSL by giving SSL a premium alternative, making the game fairer and more engaging overall.

Details on the Proposed Stat Enhancer

To keep it balanced and comparable to Xanax (which gives +250 energy, +75 happiness, but -35% to fighting stats with a 360-480 min cooldown), here’s how it could work:

•  Name: Something thematic like “SSL Serum” or “Pure Adrenaline Boost” to fit the Sports Science Lab vibe.

•  Effects:

•  +200-250 Energy (matching Xanax’s core benefit for gym grinding).

•  +50-75 Happiness (slightly toned down to avoid overlap with other perks).

•  No stat penalties (unlike Xanax’s -35% fighting stats), since SSL is about clean, sustained training— this makes it appealing without being OP.

•  Cooldown: 360-480 minutes, same as Xanax, to prevent abuse.

•  Key Restriction: Does not count toward Xanax/Ecstasy limits, preserving SSL eligibility. It could even provide a minor SSL-specific bonus, like +1-2% extra gym gains for the session.

•  Purchase Mechanics:

•  Bought directly from the Points Building or a new SSL-themed vendor.

•  Cost: 15 points per dose (e.g., enough for 3x daily use like a Xanax regimen, totaling 45 points/day for heavy trainers—scalable based on testing).

•  Stackable in inventory, but with a daily/weekly cap to prevent hoarding (e.g., max 10 per day).

•  Non-tradable/sellable to keep it tied to points spending and avoid market flooding.

•  Balance Considerations:

•  To avoid making SSL too dominant, cap the daily energy from these enhancers (e.g., max 750 energy/day, aligning with 3x Xanax for non-SSL).

•  Make it unlockable only after reaching SSL gym access (e.g., via education or merits), ensuring it’s for committed players.

•  Test for exploits: Ensure it doesn’t stack weirdly with other boosters or bypass cooldowns.

•  Economic Tuning: Start with a higher cost if demand spikes too fast, or add bundles (e.g., 100 points for 7 doses) for bulk buyers.

This isn’t about nerfing non-SSL play—Xanax remains king for unrestricted grinding. It’s about giving SSL users a viable, points-funded alternative to close the gap, respecting different playstyles as mentioned in past Torn Times articles. Ultimately, it could pull in more donations by making points essential for competitive SSL training, reversing the demand decline.

What do you think? Viable, or needs tweaks? Devs, if this resonates, I’d love to hear feedback!

Cheers,

B

As a future SSL user I really like it. More importantly, I like the effect it will have on the points market. I remember when points were actually valuable, and not a back of the mind currency
