Hi guys! I’m new to this game (2 days) and I can already tell it’s pretty addictive. I wanted to write this post to thank all the players that took the time to give me great advice to become a better player. So far, it’s been a great community! Thanks everyone, and enjoy the game!

I’m quickly running out of unique ways to make fun of greenleafs in GD, too many greenleaf threads nowadays

Welcome to Torn. 3 things to remember that no training guide really tells you that will serve you well:

1. Torn's a Social Game

Regardless of why out of the dozens of different reasons you may decide to stay in Torn, at the core of it all, "Torn" at-large is a social game. All the people you serve with in your factions, beat up for pocket change, get beat up by for pocket change, look for employment for or from; It's all Social, just like the real world. So keep that in mind; You will slowly earn a reputation, no matter how small or isolated it may be; Do your best to make sure it's a good one, yea? Which leads directly into:

2. Everyone in Torn knows someone

Almost everyone in Torn past 14 days old knows "someone", or otherwise has a connection to someone who is more-than-capable of beating any Early Game players head in effortlessly. (And you'll find out as you play that "Early Game" in Torn for most players is around 1 to 2 years, not weeks). Whether it's a direct friendship, business connection, faction member, someone their Faction Leader can call if they're being targeted, or even someone just higher up in the Family of Factions / Alliance, you can basically guarantee everyone in Torn "knows someone". So if you're ever looking down on another player going "You have 2 friends, you're in a tiny faction, and you're 30 days old. You're no one." - You are likely correct, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean they don't still have a connection to someone who can kick your s**t in if you decide to be a b**tard. So behave yourself, otherwise, don't say I didn't tell you so.

3. There's so much more to Torn than you'll guess

As simple as the title. Every single person in Torn has been surprised by the sheer amount of content and the depth of the systems involved in Torn. Combat, Battlestats, Workstats, Company Management, Education, Equipment Stats and Perks, Racing, Flying, Chaining, Ranked Wars, Real Wars, Dirty Bombs, Seasonal Events, the typical Politics you see in any PvP game, Item Buying and Selling and Mugging Strategies, Merits and Medals... You'll be busy for a while.

Most seasoned players will look at you as nothing more than a tourist until your account hits 365 days old because of how high the turnover rate in Torn is. (EDIT: Almost as if on-cue, buddy's post directly above me as I was typing this showcases that.) We're just over 4,000,000 created accounts, with an average daily userbase somewhere in the 90K~ range; Less than 2.5% of all enrolled users (Keeping in mind plenty of those have been banned, but definitely not the majority of them) still play.

So. Be kind, be patient, be persistent, and be coachable. It's a fantastic game if you're willing to listen and learn, and don't have a loose mouth with a temper any time someone laughs at you.
