So I have a couple questions, do all new players start with a free merit respec, or have I heard that wrong?
If so, where do I find it and how do I use it?

All the players get a free merit reset around Christmas every year, there is not one for just new players.

You have 41 awards. I promise you that nothing you have done with your merits is super concerning or hard to just correct by earning some more. It takes 55 merit points to get to 10/10 in a single thing, so you'll be absolutely fine. Don't sweat it.
