What it is

MoDuL's Pit Guru is a racing analysis tool for Torn Racing.

It started from Lap Recorder, but it goes further.

Instead of only saving lap data, Pit Guru helps you see what is happening during the race and understand the story behind the result.

Current status

The userscript, public race player, account verification, saved race history, and race reports are live.

Public Torn API keys are only used when needed for verification or driver information. They are not saved by Pit Guru.

Current build highlights

  • The public race player is live at pp-api.sokin.xyz/pit-guru/.
  • Pit Guru can now remember more race information, including races, replays, drivers, tracks, garages, fuel, predictions, and Records data.
  • Live races and replays now follow the visible race progress more naturally instead of jumping straight to the final result.
  • Predictions can appear before the race starts, using the visible participant list and available race history.
  • Driver Intel can help give extra context about racers, past performance, and track history where Torn makes that information available.
  • Past Races now gives a better view of previous races on the current track, helping you compare the field before or during a race.
  • Race reports are cleaner, easier to read, and include useful sections such as race details, lap data, driver tables, charts, and summaries.
  • HTML exports now follow the selected Pit Guru theme and can include race charts plus car images where available.
  • The race view has been reorganised with clearer sections such as Leaderboard, Lap Recording, Sectors, Speed, Lap Pace, Summary, Driver Stats, Predictions, and Fuel.
  • Gaps has been renamed to Leaderboard, making the live race view easier to understand at a glance.
  • The new Lap Recording view shows one column per lap, total time, fastest lap, and live unfinished-lap placeholders.
  • Fuel now has its own optional section, so it can be shown or hidden more cleanly.
  • Speed, G-force, fuel, and acceleration/braking estimates now wait for the race or replay to actually begin before showing values.
  • Large races should feel smoother, especially races with 30, 45, or 50+ racers.
  • Pit Guru now avoids doing unnecessary work while the race tab is not visible or focused, helping reduce wasted browser activity.
  • The Pit Guru window now behaves better inside the browser and avoids saving broken full-page resize positions.
  • Horizontal and vertical scrollbars now match the selected Pit Guru theme more consistently.
  • TV Commentary and Team Radio can now be hidden separately, so users have more control over what they want to see.
  • Pit-wall messages stay separate from the TV commentary stream, making both sections cleaner.
  • The pre-race countdown is now shown in one clear place instead of being repeated in multiple areas.
  • Pit Guru is better at avoiding stale or mixed race information, especially before a race starts.
  • Completed races can now sync into saved history when final analysis becomes available.
  • The top race details now respect your selected unit setting, including miles and mph where appropriate.
  • Car images and driver/car table styling are now more consistent across the main race sections.
  • The race engine is now included inside the userscript, so public installs stay simple with one script.

Development direction

  • Clearer live race views that are easier to follow while the race is happening.
  • Better race reports that explain more than just the final result.
  • Stronger predictions with more useful driver and track history.
  • Cleaner settings so normal users do not need to understand the technical side.
  • More useful race summaries, charts, and comparisons after each race.
  • Lap Recorder lessons carried forward, but without being limited by the older project.

Lap Recorder handoff

Pit Guru grew out of Lap Recorder and the racing ideas that came from it.

Lap Recorder focused mainly on saving lap data. Pit Guru takes that idea further by trying to understand the race as a whole.

It is not just a one-for-one replacement. It is a bigger racing workspace with live views, predictions, saved history, reports, and stronger analysis.

Follow progress

The project page on MoDuL's Hub is the main public place for updates, FAQ notes, changelog summaries, and the supporter release path.

The aim is simple: make Torn Racing easier to follow, easier to understand, and more enjoyable for players who care about racing.

PDA Compatability

The script is not yet compatible with TornPDA or Mobile versions of Torn.

Known Limitation - Very big races

Pit Guru can become slow or temporarily freeze your browser during very large races, especially long custom races with a high number of participants.

For example, a race with 100 drivers and 100 laps on a track with 35 segments/checkpoints creates:

35 segments × 100 laps × 100 drivers = 350,000 timed interval values

Pit Guru then uses this data to calculate lap times, sector times, gaps, order changes, speed estimates, overtakes, crash detection, and the final race summary.

The simple version:

The race contains around 350,000 interval points.

The more realistic version:

Pit Guru may perform several million small calculations while also updating and displaying the interface.

The maths itself is not usually the main problem. The heavier part is analysing the data and rendering it neatly in the browser for very large fields. On slower hardware or browsers, this may cause the page to hang briefly.

If the browser shows a “Wait” message, pressing Wait should usually allow the page to recover.

Performance improvements for very large races are planned.

I've used this script for a couple of weeks to help the dev and it is very impressive.  Easily switched on and off.

The sheer amount of data available and different ways of displaying it are a bit daunting.  Make no mistake, this is no small script.

It is very well put together, there are a lot of options to view racing data by track/car etc far too much stuff for me to say here.

I recommend any serious racer in Torn give this a try and direct any questions or feedback to https://www.torn.com/profiles.php?XID=4022159

This gets a big +1 from me.

Unlike Torn’s limited race history, races saved in the Pit Guru Player are permanently archived, allowing you to revisit them long after they are no longer available through Torn.

No subscription is required. You only need to enter a public Torn API key to verify your username and help prevent bots from flooding the server.

Your API key is not stored on the server — it remains securely in your browser.

Professor Slipstream and I will be waiting for you at the track! 🏁
