I’ve been trying to grind the Cracking crime, but it looks like every time I get a crit fail it wipes all my progress back down to zero. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?

Your overall crime experience is too low for cracking currently, your best bet is to start too left and move left to right like a book (search for cash, graffiti, bootlegging) and get each to 100 before attempting harder crimes :)

You'll lose at least 20x a success on a Crit fail, so it's common to reset your progress at lower crime skills :) have patience and you'll get there

It's not a bug, but cracking is a higher difficulty, more advanced crime. You need to finish the easier, earlier ones and gather some crime experience before targeting the more difficult crimes. If you don't, the consequence is what you are experiencing now - many fails. That is ineffective. Try finishing search for cash, bootlegging and graffiti before going for anything else.

Just to add on to the given advice.

Crit fails are the worst as they will impact your CS negatively. This is apso true even when you reach CS100 for a particular crime
