Giftable Donator Subscriptions
I'd like to suggest adding the ability to gift a Donator Subscription directly to another player.
Why?
Currently, the closest option is gifting a Donator Pack, but that isn't the same as gifting a subscription. There are times when players want to buy a month, three months, or a year of Donator status for a friend, faction member, contest winner, or someone they've met in-game.
Other online platforms (such as Discord) allow users to purchase subscriptions for other people directly, and it encourages generosity within the community while increasing revenue.
How it could work
- Add a "Gift Subscription" option alongside the normal subscription purchase.
- The buyer selects:
- Recipient
- Subscription length (1, 3, 6, or 12 months)
- Payment is completed normally.
- The subscription is immediately applied to the recipient's account (or delivered as a claimable gift if preferred).
- The purchase is final and non-refundable once delivered.
Preventing abuse
One concern is potential scams or payment reversals. A few safeguards could help:
- Gift subscriptions cannot be canceled after delivery.
- If a payment is charged back or found to be fraudulent, the gifted subscription is revoked in the same manner Torn already handles fraudulent purchases.
- Gifts are purchased directly from Torn rather than transferred between players, so there is no in-game item that can be traded or exploited.
Benefits
- Gives players another way to support friends, faction members, and community events.
- Makes it easier for factions to reward members with subscriptions.
- Creates another revenue stream for Torn with very little impact on gameplay.
- Provides a feature that many modern online services already offer.
Overall, this seems like a quality-of-life improvement that benefits both players and Torn. It provides more flexibility for legitimate purchases while keeping appropriate safeguards in place to minimize abuse.
