Although I haven't been playing this game for long, I can say for sure that the most exciting and memorable moments happened late at night in the beginner channel. Everyone talking there was around my level—we chatted casually, joked around, and shared questions about the game.

However, once I aged out of beginner status, I often felt a sense of regret. We were left with only the Global channel or faction chat. Speaking up casually in Global felt like putting a target on my back. Everyone is left praying they become a faction favorite; otherwise, it gets very lonely.

I hope the developers can add more communication channels based on player levels or stats. That way, players can still make friends beyond their own factions. :)

Global chat should be closed down. There are plenty of active Discord server communities related to Torn that you can chat on. I don't think splitting up the player base in chats based on level or stats will be used at all, except as just another Global disaster.

Based solely on what you've said, it sounds like you just made yourself a target, whether intentionally or not. Global chat, right now, is a bit of a mess, but I would say that's largely due to the chat lag issues making people not want to chat very much. I won't speak for everyone, but my F5 key has never seen more use than it has when chatting in Global the last month or two. Dunno what's causing it, but it definitely needs fixing. As for faction chat, that largely comes down to the faction you join. I won't speak from personal experience, but from what I've read about SMTH, there are probably better and more friendly options out there, you just gotta find and join a faction that does a better job of making players, particularly new ones, feel welcome.

I don't think that separating chats further is really a good idea. It's not much of a solution and only really discourages players more from chatting with each other by segregating them. I think just fixing the chat(s) that currently exist is a much better next step. Not to mention, group chats are on the way.

To expand on your idea, instead of having gated discussion areas, I've always thought that Torn could use some third-space social areas.  Similar to the poker rooms, have a capped amount of people and potentially an activity to do where you can just relax and chat.

one example off the top of my lid - a bar room where you can chat with others, order and immediately drink marked up alcohol, and maybe there's pool or another card game to play where people have the option to wage money against each other.

But maybe this isn't the best thing for the game.

I've been feeling this completely. It makes chatting a pain rn for me and I've tried everything I can think of. The lag on GC is incredible, and makes keeping up with a decent interaction pretty difficult.
