As the title suggests, I’m turning 20 years in Torn today. So I’ve decided to make this thread to boost my karma and my ego, because everyone likes to be heard once in a while for no good reason, even if by total strangers, while I throw some witty remarks not written by ChatGPT that probably only I find funny (see? I’m starting already). And so, to trick you into reading this, I’m throwing some DP in as well.
So here it goes.
First off, it is not consecutive 20 years, as I step out for roughly 120 moons before my brain tricked me into logging back in again a few years back. Why? Some might say middle-life crisis, but they would be jealous.
Hey, don’t look disappointed. This is still a massive achievement and I could be your dad!
A good thing when I restarted was that I got to play on mobile, which was not the case back when I quit a few years ago (technically you could, but the cell phones in those days and bandwidth… my God!). Anyway, usage of smartphone gave me an incentive boost, along with discovering Torn PDA and Scripts. And also learning that “stacking” was a thing.
Nowadays, I just go around randomly clicking on things without thinking too much about it. Also because my attention spam is that of a chicken, my memory is very poor and I don’t want a headache. Yes, generically I make it as such as to maximize my actions within the game mechanics, but do not have the time to look at details of RW weapons or freaking understand exactly what early discharge is (yes, yes, I know what it is, just making a point here). I just love the way the game is build and the many different routes you can take.
The best part? Community is great. You guys are awesome. I risk saying that 100% 90% of Torn player base is really good and nice people, which is something very hard to explain to outsiders when the first pitch is “a crime game where you go around committing crimes and beating other people”.
Drama is part of Torn as it is a part of life. I don’t sweat too much about it. Just, for the love of God, stop interpreting everything to the letter on the Forums. Other than that, bring the popcorns, I say.
While I’m at it: Hey Ched, game itself is kinda stale. Doing nothing is worse than doing anything! Step it up, man!
As I approached 20 years of service in this madhouse (I know, technically is more like 10, but give me a break if you want some free stuff J), I was never into philanthropy and actually my goal has always been to rank up the ladder of Networth for no real reason other than being pixel rich drop a DB just for the lolz in a long distance future. But today I’ll look the other way and will award 10 DP to 10 random people – better than nothing, you filthy spenders!
Just post on this thread until 23:59 TC time Sunday, August 10th. I may also throw out some Xanax if your comment stands out and I get drunk.
OK, enough is enough.
Thanks everyone! Keep up the grind! See you out there!
Well, I stopped because smart phones were not a thing and I wasn't in front of my computer everytime and seem pointless as you need to put in the hours.
Then smart phones came. One day I remembered it and tried to log in. Needed to learn everything again and got fond of the game.
I wouldn't be here without smart phones.
Yeah. Sad and uninteresting story. BTW, it was a ~10 years hiatus and now I'm older than 99% of you. Check mate!
Listen, you train all year and need a place to flex. That place is elimination. Then everyone likes a good hero story, follow a leader, be part of something.
I repeat: be part of something. Not rewards. If you want rewards, save it for Halloween.
Elimination is great and nothing gives a boost to the community like this event. And we all know in the end the community is what makes this going...
The people that don't care for Elimination is because they don't want to put in the work. Fair enough. But this is a game to play. So play it!
