Simple thing here... Get FireFox and run Firebug & YSlow... (Other browsers support this also...)
I realize optimizing is every developers last thought especially with the need to release a product so this should not come as a surprise...
YSlow gives Torn a (D) 62...
31 External JavaScript scripts.
19 External Stylesheets
56 External Background images (This may be higher depending on the page...)
Your CDN is not checking out to be a "true" CDN... (This may just be a flaw with YSlow. I don't use CDN's but can get to a Low A/ High B)
Add compression (gzip) to your configs.
Add Expire headers....
These are all pretty easy fixes, but should be tremendous in speeding things up with the amount of traffic this game experiences. It will also help you in reducing some of your server loads overall.
I would do this first over anything else as this could reduce a lot of issues overall that might incur over the next week.

I went to South Africa to purchase some armor.
- I entered a quantity of 10 for Combat Vest
- I entered a quantity of 10 for Combat pants
- Money was totaled correctly at the bottom.
- Clicked the buy now...
- Once purchased the top number of item limit only reduced by "10."
- Money for all 20 items was deducted.
- Returning home I only found 10 Combat vests.
(Noticing this I did purchase two additional pieces of each to make sure I at least returned home with something...)
Using Safari 7.1 Mac OSX Mavericks
When in the GYM and clicking on any specific stat to train in it makes your page jump to the top of the page.
This is annoying win you are training multiple times. While increasing the screen size helps, but a simple code change here to make this not happen.. (The old gym used to do this also...)
All anchor tags that link to something dynamically remove the href="#". In CSS you can do: a:hover{ cursor:pointer; }
This gives the same results it normally would, but removes the "back to top" action. As when you link to a hashtag this is for targeting specific spots on a page. Ex: page.php#idofelement
I would suggest doing this to any dynamic anchor that doesn't actually use the "href."

I can try it again, might have been lag or some other fix that went into place that resolved it.

TheTraveller [1845619]KnifeBoy [1548391]I hope you read this Ched. In my experience a combined bug fixing team and development team do not work anywhere near as good as two separate teams. You also need a separate testing team. The aim is to reduce the number of bugs in released software. The testing team must work in a technical environment either identical or near to the end user environment.
Sub-consciously when the 3 roles are combined there is a tendency to release buggy code - simply cos some people actually prefer fixing/mending than building. Its no different in the construction industry. It is rare to see a house builder mending the same house over its lifetime. They would never get round to building new houses if all they did was constantly repair the ones they had built previously.
I'm also a developer. It is a known fact that devs can't effectively test their own code. It is a sub conscience reluctance to be brutal enough. The QA staff should always test what they didn't write.
You had me up until "Developers" can't test their own code. That is not Ched's problem. Ched's biggest problem is he has worked on this site for 10+ years and has no other work experience running a business other than Torn. Problem #1 right there. When it comes to project management Ched can't deny he is the worst at it. If he and his team adopted a proper form of Project management along with someone who could lead them in that process. "The company I work for does Agile... We can properly predict when something will launch based on statistic performance of the team." they could actually predict when they would release something. Not saying they do not need proper bug testing... As they do... (Which often times is "us") But the problem with "Games" is that even more so its been his "learning" experience. Hence the game has been re-dev'ed several times in certain areas... Eg: Faction Warring, Stock Market, Gambling, for gods sake RACING... And the list goes on... If proper lessons where learned and adopted here... It might be different.
Give Developer a bit more credit along with yourself. We can be fully capable of doing all aspects as we are "problem solvers" but we need guidance. And yes there is roles, but even those roles come down to "Oh you made that section... Guess what you are the Product Owner... You know how to fix that the fastest so you own that..."
Seriously though as much flack Ched gets, I have played this damn game for almost 10 years. And finding myself questioning why the hell have I stuck it out this long. Now let me kiss his butt for a minute Thanks Ched... ;-)
Assuming you all use JQuery, "based on reading your code you do..."
$("#IDORCLASSELEMENT").click(function(){
$(this).children(".CHILDRENTOHIDE").toggle();
});
Want it to stick? Ok then add a cookie, so thats another 5-10 minutes of coding. Now I am seeing why this release took so dang long.
Chedburn [1]I'm not exactly sure when, but hopefully this year, warring will be changed with chaining disappearing entirely for a short while. They'll be replaced with territory warring which will see far less (but more important) wars. That'll be the end of mass amounts of factions appearing within the warbase. Chaining would return, but it'd display as a single 'war' against everyone rather than an individual war against every individual faction. At least this is the current unconfirmed plan.
If you desperately need to be able to collapse them, it can be added temporarily but we'd need to devote resources to it - and then probably remove it once the new war system comes out. To me personally, it's not much of a problem as I can simply scroll past them.
