Hey all,
As many of you know, I am a somewhat accomplished player, currently top 20 stats in game with 10tril+ and 500b networth. I still consider myself a noob, but I am addicted to Torn and have my own unique opinions on many aspects of the game which I view as the most efficient. These may or may not be, but I am an avid believer of min/maxing the game, so read into this what you will, but I believe these things can definitely improve your overall gameplay and make you a better player. I will add shit when I think of it.
Stat Build
I believe that a ratio of 5:1:2:3 is super effective in the current meta right now and get you to a super competitive spot in most fights.
This is for example: 5b strength, 1b defense(can be less or zero tbh with how special gyms work), 2b speed, 3b dexterity.
Since people cannot read, this is an example ratio, not me saying that this is the exact ratio to use. Easiest method for this ratio is probably to get into a strip, train dex to 5b, strength 3b speed 2b in the current meta this is what I would recommend.
At this point, SEs would be pretty valuable, you can interchange defense dex and strength if you like, but I personally believe dexterity is super strong with current RW meta. On offense you can roll a tyrosine, have an enemy smoked and you'll be in an amazing spot against most of the game. This build also keeps some special gyms open for maximising training, and also allows you to reach SE point quicker by abandoning one stat. Obviously the ratio will have weaknesses, but I personally believe the above ratio is the most effective for beating most of torn currently, that may change but anyways thats my views on it.
Elite end game example dex buildtwhich is viable even if you're currently a nub:
Armor: Vanguard set
Job: Private security firm for bonus flash or Gents strip for bonus tyro
Stats: 3b str, 0 def, 2b speed, 5b dex
Use tyro and flashes/roll needles and you will be a terror to most of the game currently
Training
First of all, stop the useless logging in and attacking 10 noobs for 5k mugging total, its useless and people will overtake you easily.
The current gym system rewards exponential growth, so every bit of e spent is super useful now. Train on steadfast when you can and pick your ratio sooner than later so you can reach point of SEing sooner.
Once your ratio is decided (based on special gyms, torntools has a script to do this), you should figure out what boosters you should be spending on.
Unless its a book, FHCs should never be considered they're a ripoff. I will add a guide later, but do not spend more on cans/boosters than you make in a day with daily ROI ( Return on Investment, stocks etc), always make sure you're netting more than you spend, or you shouldn't be spending.
But there is points where SEs become better than cans, but its a higher point now and all relative as SEs are often just saving you days training imo, so unless you can use many over a period, there isn't a rush to SE as they're super expensive and that money can be used to make more money.
Easiest method for most people is to join a gents/ladies strip, train their def/dex to a strong ratio 2,3,4b+ etc in special gym w books and then join a restaurant after for just str/ speed training on stead. Using 25e cans and intermittent SEs on the core stat you will have an elite build relatively quickly.
Money Making Methods/ Saving
Tornstats has an ROI guide and they're are many out there, pls dm me one I am lazy to find rn and add.
But you should likely buy all ROI stocks above 20% ROI, max bank merits and max bank (2b into it), run a PSF, Logi, Rig or TV as these should net you 15-50m a day. All will tie into passive income which will be key to you making money long term.
Mix this with Weekly ranked war income and smart spending/saving and you should aim for 100b networth. This is the point where say 1% in a stock fund or invested yourself, will net you 2 SEs basically. And you can really begin becoming elite.
Gambling, overspending your means on RW gear and other useless pursuits of having fun will be your demise in the long term. Of course play your own game, but if you think can, think of your account more in mathematical terms, if you need those things to keep playing fine. But if you can cut them down, you can have more liquid to invest and reach a more elite level of play sooner, which is what I did. It was boring for a long time training and saving to the point of SEing efficiently, but worth it now.
Ideally never spend more than you make daily and you will always be on the right path.
Company
For Training, 10* Restaurants are most energy efficient when using cans, can use 16 of em a day, which 16 red cows and 3e per job point is more e than FHCs, and a lot cheaper.
Fitness centers are ok, strips are really good for whoring def or dex, I recommend trying to whore those all in one go in a strip and unlocking the special gym like Elites/Balboas to speed things up!
For warring, 7-10* Candle is best (ONLY If you are someone who regularly gets through stack, 48 hr booster, refill on first day of war otherwise war enhancing perks like strips are better so you win more fights), loads of energy added with 5e per jp. Farms are good at 7e per jp but they rotate 9* every second week which sucks imo.
For closer fighting, lingerie, PSF, gas station all have decent warring perks, but imo more energy is more valuable than any perks you gain. PSF at least you can get additional fighting power w the armor boosts and make good income though. Candle can be additional income for RWs also.
Alternatively try run a company with good ROI, PSF, Rig, logi, mining corp etc. Always make more than you spend daily, companys are the only method in game to gain game changing perks, so do not work in some shitty logi for 2m a day that is worthless.
My first goal in torn was to make 20m a day from stocks and company, this would fund my 12 crocazades a day and still give me profit every day. You mix this with RW and other methods of money and suddenly you can gain on other players, never spend more than you make where possible (exceptions: books, events, wars etc.)
Note: Clothing, Gas station and gun shop are also viable warring companies, just not my preference but certainly not bad.
Ranked War Guide
Company: Join a candle to maximise your energy output or a war boosting company like strip, PSF, gas etc
Buy 2-3 tiers on MCS BB for 200-300 more energy each war
Buy an assault set as a base (1b ish for set) as its best cheap armor set. Warlord or yellow Armalite/Enfield will be a decent addition and relatively cheap.
Learn how to roll needles, use your med cooldown effectively as well as revives and you will be better than most of the active playerbase, even really old players.
Merits:
Firstly, If you don't have many merits, spread them around these, but similar order of priority. Keep in mind levels 8-10 is 27 merits and to get to level 7 it costs 28. Takes 55 to get 10/10 so for example id rather have 5 and 5 in life and crit than just 10 life.
When I say max I just mean prioritize these to 7+
Non war ones: max edu and bank to get edu done ASAP and get easy bank income on 3 month investments ( Can unset out of edu once done them, but edus take like 7 years or something so make sure to get those reduced ASAP, also work in education to get top position there for further reduction ).
Max Life first
Max Critical next
Max rifle after probably as its best weapon slot.
Max the passives, str, def, speed, dex, can ignore 1 if you're not training em ( using above ratio ) and training 3 stats, extra 55 merits to place elsewhere!
Crime xp is decent now with OCs 2.0.
Rehab one is useless unless you are an old player with high rehab bills. Hosp is meh unless youre a heavy hitter/merc.
Mug is useless if you do not mug.
Bank is essential for passive income, try get it 7+
Employee effectiveness is bad unless you need it for the company, for example ANs or music stores if you're a noob. If not, the extra 500k u make a day is not worth it..
Stealth and awareness should be ZERO you idiot.
1-5 in Nerve is fine.
Do not put merits into some shit like SMG or shotgun, max rifle out, at worst put some into your melee of choice if you have an abundance of merits.
Make sure to buy all merits you can.
Temporaries/ Defend settings:
For me personally as I am top 100 stats and often using revitalize/sure shot, I have my primary set to 0 as I do not wanna waste ammo defending when I am likely attacking (If someone is hitting you and you're tryna hit, it's frustrating as your primary suddenly has little to no ammo and it won't replenish in a new fight if someone is in your attack loader).
But for most people a ratio of temporary being 100 ( Can be less if say you wanna use a tyrosine needle or sero a little into fight)
Primary higher at like 10-20 with reload on, melee at 3-5 and secondary at 1-2 reload off. All depends on items but that is a basic setup.
Smoke on if you have good dex, needle on if you wanna afford it, tyrosine/sero is good. I like melatonin as it boosts speed for me and increases chances of winning the defend, but stalemates can be solid too if it's during war.
I have a guide in our forums about grouping and temporaries and I made one in public forums, go read that for a more detailed breakdown.
Advanced: SEing
As I said above, this is not something I would consider before 100b networth or a networth where you can afford 3-4 SEs a month without losing money.
Most average players should never touch an SE before 3b in a stat unless you are super rich imo, and even then I would not rush as they are so stupidly expensive at 70 SEs or 31.5b to double a stat.
Even being able to afford 1 SE a month on 3b in one stat will over time make you a super elite player, as it is all exponential! So be patient, stats will stay the money will not, and money makes money, and that is the only way you will be successful in chasing those above you.
RW gear - Euphoria basic build
Last Update 5/6/25
"Never spend more on your equipment than your total stats" - Euphoria (Obviously within reason)
Basic setup I can recommend (Do not get fancy with some shitty shotgun or expensive melee, rifles with mods and ammo always gonna be best and can easily source better for less or same price). Base stats and rate of fire matter a lot, as do mods and special ammo so get your missions done!!! The below is a basic build of any combo I would recommend which is likely better than 90% of players.
Mods: Trigger and smaller laser on the secondary. Recoil pad + big laser on primary!
Primary: Armalite/Enfield - Perks: Powerful, deadeye(orange+), penetrate, puncture(orange+), expose (orange+), specialist
Secondary: Assassinate pistol with good base damage/accuracy to open fight high damage and avoid them using needle/temp first turn
Melee: Kodachi or any japanese blade/ DBK/Macana - Parry, Eviscerate, Quicken, Fury, Rage
Temporary: Needle or smoke/tear depending. Flash can have uses also
Armor: No riot or combat. Assault set with marauder helmet is decent. Full delta set is decent for attacking but like assault headshots f**k you badly. Marauder decent above this, then obviously vanguard, sentinel next steps. With EOD tiers above also, EOD chest/helmet + other pieces works decently also.
On The Offensive (From Thor's Guide)
Weapons
The best weapon is one that deals the most damage, for the cheapest price.
Don't spend more money on a weapon just because it is higher on Thor's meta list.
The current meta for offensive weaponry should look something like this:
Primary - Highest bonus and quality rifle you can afford.
Best Rifle - Enfield/Armalite > Tavor/Sig
Yellow - Penetrate > Powerful > Specialist > Deadeye
Orange - Deadeye > Puncture/Penetrate > Powerful/Specialist
Red - Deadeye/Puncture > Specialist/Penetrate > Powerful
Secondary - An assassinate pistol with high damage.
Best Pistol - Derringer > QSZ > Baretta/USP
Melee - A high damage eviscerate melee weapon.
Best Melee - Kodachi/DBK/Macana > Yasakuni
Temporary - Needles in this order Epinephrine > Tyrosine/Serotonin > Melatonin
Ammo - Armor Piercing > Incendiary > Tracer > Normal >>> Hollowpoint
You should be collecting special ammo.
Duke Missions > Stock Block > Big Al's Shoplifting > Job Points
Weapon Mods - Recoil Pad > Laser Sight >> Flashlight/Accuracy Mods
If you have a specific advanced Q do not PM me I won’t reply, you can post here and if it isn’t something which can be easily found if you spent more than 1 minute looking in the wiki or forums I might answer it (this is regarding the numerous lazy silly Qs I’ve already gotten. If you’re not capable enough to find basic answers you’ll never be any good at this game.
Any upvtotes/bumps appreciated to keep this knowledge alive if you found my philosophy on game useful :)
