city watch uninstall failed - removing system tray · · 0 likes

I think I have cleaned up everything after I went to uninstall City Watch and it failed so I attempted to do a manual cleanup. The last part I can't figure out is how to get CW out of my system tray. Where is the registration/script for putting CW in the system tray and how can I remove it?

Backstory-
I went to uninstall CW on my windows 8.1 machine and it didn't do anything. The system tray icon still was there and the executable still was on my computer. So since it wasn't showing up in my Programs list, I decided to attempt a manual cleanup.

1) I went through Java and uninstalled all Java programs and applets.
2) I uninstalled Java (both 32 and 64-bit) versions
3) I removed the executable
4) I went through the registry and found as many CW-related entries and deleted them (thankfully without bricking my comp)
5) I searched msconfig and related startup places in windows for CW but couldn't find any entries to delete.
6) I ran Glary Utilities to attempt to clean up any shortcuts/registry entries that were pointing to deleted assets

After all of this though the tray icon is still there.

I think it would be helpful when posting a new thread (possibly only applicable for Q&A/support-type threads) if the forums can show you similar threads so you can see if someone else has already posted your question/suggestion. Even if you click through the forum it's still easy to miss threads.

Instead of having really useful items, it might be nice to have a memorabilia set. Each advent calendar has a year, and you get a low-value (low-utility) collectible for participating that year.

I agree that there is no further effort required, I just have serious OCD. For those fellow sufferers the link I posted earlier will set you right.

So it turns out that Windows likes to cache these icons/programs in the registry. I found this site that showed me how to delete them:

http://www.7tutorials.com/how-clean-notification-area-icon-cache

So I'm thinking this is probably not a CityWatch bug at this point, but the way Windows behaves.

As an update, I installed CW again and uninstalled it again, which worked this time. However now I have 2 system tray entries (they don't show up, but when I go to the preferences I see them there). Is this more of a Windows thing or is this something that the CW uninstaller needs to clean up or both?
