I saw your forum post, and would like some help, any advice would be nice. I started playing Torn awhile ago, on an account I no longer have access to, and was never able to get the hang of all the strategies and such that people make for new accounts. I don't want to reach level 100 the fastest, or become a billionaire in a few months. I want to play the game how it was intended to be played. But it seems as if no matter how often I log in, use my energy, nerve, then log back in a few hours later and repeat, I never seem to feel like I can get to the point of those who have been playing the game for years, especially in events where fighting is the main objective. That was actually the reason I saw your forum post, to find some help with the event.
So, any advice would be very helpful.

I remembered when I was younger and I used to swim and I got to participate in tournaments. I was really good. I lived in a city with a beach during my childhood and I always practiced swimming. so when I was studying pharmacy at the federal university of Rio de Janeiro and I was living in a dorm. There I started to live with a friend who had come from the interior and barely knew how to swim. I asked him to participate in the swimming lessons with me and he did.
After a few months of classes he had learned a lot and was already much better than when he started classes. But one day during class he called me to ask something...
" I'm really enjoying swimming but I can't swim like you. And when I start to cross the pool I keep lifting my head all the time to see if I'm already reaching the other side. And I end up losing focus on synchronizing the strokes with breathing. How do you know if it's already coming? Doesn't it disturb you?"
I then told him what the secret was.
Don't stare at the end. Or if the end is already near. But enjoy the ride. When the end comes you'll know anyway. It focuses on every stroke and every breath. This is the best part of the swimming lesson. When you reach the end your hand will hit the edge of the pool and you'll know you've arrived. Or else notice that at the bottom of the pool there is a blue colored tile that ends a little before reaching the edge of the pool. You have this tip to know that it is coming to an end.
Apply this example here in Torn City. Or in your private life. don't compare yourself to other people who have been here since the beginning. it will only make you feel small. Now look how much better you are compared to when you started? And how many people who are way below your level and would like to be like you?
My advice is to do your best every day, read the tutorials, clear your doubts and keep building your skills. Lightly and pleasantly. In this way your walk will be just enjoyment instead of anguish and anxieties.

I read your post on the forums generously offering help to new players, which is admirable. I'm after a bit of advice please, I'm deciding if I need to join a faction or not.
I'm enjoying Torn so far, but not sure if it's possible to carry on being a solo player and not join a faction or if joining a faction becomes essential as the game goes on.
I need to balance game time with family, work, etc. I'm active and log in regularly, but unsure what commitment joining a faction means?

I'm here to help those in need! I thought your question was very good. I'll tell you something that might sound like I'm kidding. But to this day I feel exactly the same way as you....I see that there are players here in Torn City who are pretty much like superheroes or like an X-Man mutant.
I see that your frustration is one of the main points that make newcomers here in Torn City give up.
Your question reminded me of the karate kid movie. After getting tired of being bullied by others, the character manages to turn the tables. If you're tired of being robbed, this is good for you in the sense of forcing you to train, keep your money safely, understand ways to avoid getting robbed and other ways to avoid being robbed without just training.
I'll explain better. But in a way that you can feel pleasure and satisfaction in every moment you're playing. To show you that it is precisely the difficulty and some aspects of the game that are annoying for many, in fact they are pure satisfaction and delight. In your specific case. And the real truth behind it all is that I actually witnessed something that few ever get the chance to experience.
I have for years sought to help newcomers in whatever way I can. Without expecting anything in return. Without seeking fame or recognition. I learned that when you do a good deed from the heart, if you tell someone else what you did, you lose the credit for doing it. If you're going to help someone just do it. When I had internet access, I played The Crims.

I've recently taken up this endeavor, using tutorials and guides to lend a helping hand. And while I know I could do more given ample resources, the satisfaction I get from seeing newer, resource-strapped players reaching out to offer help and ask if I accept donations, is second to none. Helping those in need imparts a sense of dignity, sets a noble precedent, and instills in the helped a feeling of being seen and valued that is indelibly etched in their lives.
Unfortunately, wealth inequality breeds envy and discourages the less fortunate. Some attempt to curry favor with the affluent, hoping to gain something in return, and while there's no judgment on genuine praise and kindness, hypocrisy and lack of integrity cannot be hailed as virtues.
After several experiences in Torn City and real life, my mission has evolved to primarily help newcomers and contribute my best to ensure our community remains strong, united, hospitable, and growing. Having played for many years and striving just enough to unlock the rewards, I've accepted the fact that, with my gaming schedule, it might take me around 25 years to amass the 100b. Indeed, I'm halfway through this timeline and have only collected a fraction of this sum. Yet, I'm possibly the happiest citizen around, appreciated for my altruistic efforts, recognition that was earned the right way: a byproduct of my good deeds. I didn't assist others for image or attention, not for fame or acknowledgement.
I could wax lyrical about the joys of benevolence, but time is a luxury I lack today. What brings me the greatest joy is disseminating ideas and sowing the seeds of brotherly love and charity, here in Torn City, and wherever I tread. But my young son requires my attention tomorrow, so my availability dwindles. It's just the two of us, my little man, my legacy, who will grow to be a fruitful tree himself.

Hello friends. It's really nice to know that there are so many people who love this game as much as I do. But friends unfortunately mistakes happen. Who never made a mistake? Surely those responsible for this error must be disappointed, they will be charged and may receive a punishment. If there's anyone here who's never made a mistake, I'll take it back. But when one of us makes a mistake, we try to correct it and apologize. I understand the joke. I found the comments very funny. But after reading everything and putting myself in the shoes of others... I would be very happy to see a little more demonstration of understanding, respect and trust. Make this reflection... If it were you, after years of dedicating yourself and giving your best, working hard to offer an excellent game. And when an error happens, you get a lot of bills and complaints. What do you think would be better if it were you? I'll tell you what would make me happy and motivated to work harder and harder for my community: seeing that everyone knew how to understand that it's an extremely complex game with incalculable variables and that mistakes can happen... That these mistakes were discussed within the community in a respectful manner, since all the effort and commitment demonstrated was taken into account. That regardless of the error, and the damage caused, I am worthy of receiving the trust of the community that the problem will be solved and those who were harmed will not be ignored.
