Proposed new job position for oil rig company · · 4 likes

I was excited to finally get a job with an oil rig company a while back because that's what I do IRL. But I do a slightly different job than what you would expect.

I'm the guy they call when they either have new pipes going in, old pipes that might be corroding, or if something catastrophically fails and they need to find a leak. It's called non-destructive testing (NDT). Been doing it for years.

We use whatever exists to find whatever we can. Need an ultrasound on a piece of metal? We do that. Need to find cracks? We have magnetic particle/dye penetrant testing for that. Need an x-ray of a pipe to see if the welder messed something up? We definatly do that. (We actually use nadionuclutides, which is probably where all the dirty bombs come from.) There are 10 other ways to interrogate the material we are working with.

I was surprised to see that torn does not have one of the basic saftey standards that is worldwide, and I think it would be interesting to implement.
From a game mechanics standpoint it would increase efficiency and employee happiness. No leaks means less down time and no fear of another Deep Water Horizon will probably make the employees happy.

To give a real life example: just got a call from a client and there is a leak. Shut down the whole place until something can be replaced, but they can't turn everything back on until me and the boys show up to x-ray everything and confirm it won't blow up when they turn the pressure back up. We work minimum 12 hour shifts sometimes with over a month without a day off.

Just food for thought and would find really interesting if it was put into the game.

Until then, stop stealing my radioactive sources to make dirty bombs.
