Okay, Most of you may notice that I almost never post anything of the forums and may be wondering who I am. I will start off by answering this, I am a member of the community that is active many times a day and have forged very strong friendships on this game. In my time I have ran multi-factionwide alliances and many companies. I wanted to make this point clear so you can understand my choices and how badly this has affected me.
A long time ago I started a sports company for the reason that at the time I wanted to fully focus my training on defence. The bonuses at the time were strength training, defence training and I believe the last one was higher gym gains. It was what I knew a lot of my friends also needed at the time so I started the company, invested in it etc. You get the idea. It irked the hell out of me when without warning the main reason I started the company was removed but I let that go, we could still train str, sure it was now real limited but it was fine, i guess. I let it go, I didn't complain I just accepted this is what ched does some times (Having done similar things in the past such as removing entire features in which people have invested in (Giving only a handful of players notice who used that info to protect themselves i might add)).
So that was probably close to 3000 days ago. The one thing I knew is that not everyone would be active at once. I am not the kind of leader to ruthlessly kick people away when life gets busy, the main principal of my choices was that I would be here for my friends. If they went inactive for long periods then I would still be here for them when they came back. Newer players I would offer this same creedo, They dont need to worry about being booted from the company for small periods of inactivity, I never cared about being profitable or efficient, witht he 50% hit I could just about manage keeping a high rank so everyone could get a decent amount of points to put into training, at a huge personal cost over a long time. I could rationalise the investment as going towards something useful for many people. When friends would return after a period of inactivity they would find they had a lot of points built up to invest into their strength, amung many other things.
So let us fast forward this story to 2 weeks ago, I noticed the company took a 90% hit to income overnight. I'm not one for reading the recent wall of text change logs so it took a few days of this confusion to find it and realize what had happened. Instead of inactive people dropping eff to 50%, now they dropped to 0%. This is such a mind boggling change, if it were dropped to 25% it could be more understandable but a straight out 0 is insanity to me. The only way to keep a company above a low rank now would be to mercilessly boot anyone who is inactive for longer than a day or two. So this change means that running a company for the benefit of friends who only periodically play is impossible now. For the last two weeks I have watched my company downrank twice, soon to be 3 I imagine on writing of this post. We were on the 2nd page of highest earners (Even with the inactives) and now on last check I was on page 7, probably further back now. My entire reason for owning this company is being erased, I maintained it to be useful, but it is clear the down ranking wont stop unless I kick out those who I made it for in the first place or to be whittled down to earning one point a day which is not worth holding at that point.
I was stewing on this until i saw the newspaper article earlier. I want to air my grievances at the two statements ched answered with.
In regards to the change in the first place. "It was a highly rated suggestion. I don't think that's an unintended consequence, that was the entire point of the suggestion. I voiced my concerns within the suggestion, but yielded due to the high level of support on all fronts."
Just because an idea gains support doesn't mean it;s a good idea. Quite often the case is that people want something for personal benefit and often don't care about the longer term ramifications for it. As a developer it is your job to understand this, if you don't agree with an idea why the hell would you adopt it without trying to find a more comfortable middleground?
In regards to why no warning was given. "Is it worth it? Making a change like this is one thing, but having to prepare it, announce it with a deadline, and release it only at a future point in time turns it into this whole 'big thing'. At most, it's just an inconvenience to the (mostly inactive) directors who already had inactive employees at 50% effectiveness, and could have replaced them if they wanted to."
Now this one irks me the most and made me write this. Your reasoning for not giving warning is you didn't want to make it a big thing? Well what about for those it would affect? Was it not a big thing already?. With two weeks I could have gotten in contact with the crew, came to a choice about how to handle things and make a reasoned chocie before becoming frustrated by a system that out of left field began to screw over something that I had worked hard to keep balanced. Your reasoning that the only people it would affect would be mostly inactive directors is in my opinion a narrow minded conjecture to diminish responsibility for the actions taken. I think the truth is you just didn't care, and if you had said that I wouldn't have had a problem, we are all subject to the whims of the higher powers.
So I accept I am going to get a LOT of hate for this post. I'm beyond caring about that. I have been on this game for way longer than I care to count and this is certainly not the first thing to have royally annoyed me. I think the reason I felt the need to vent right now is just how... is just how little ched seemed to care about the potential impact, something I could say about many choices made with this game. Need I remind everyone of the pet's fiasco?
So yeah. Feel free to ignore me, I just felt the need to vent.
While I agree my stance is unreasonable, in that I desire less punishment for people who have inactivity periods (Especially during exam season), I think dropping to 0% in any time frame is insanity... As i said, it makes the entire point of my company vanish as it stands. I can't throw money at it to keep it high rank for my friends sake as anything * 0 is still 0. To kick them to maintain rank defeats the point. I believe there is an eco system in torn of actives and inactives. Some people will go permanently inactive, others with have on and off periods, others stay active. Making a system that only caters to the latter while seemingly reasonable, eventually kills the product unless there is a large enough influx of new, active players to replenish what is lost...
But on a moral standpoint, I just don't want to see my friends essentially punished for having lives outside of torn...
*sigh* Okay I only realised this after i went to bed but I guess i'll add a little extra information for everyone. If you notice my company is 14/20 filled. This isn't for lack of employees. I think it was about 2 days after the logistics companies were released when a friend of mine started one, He asked for some help so I gave it to him. Stocks etc. Since his goal WAS profit I had a handful of my employees who were active daily go help him until he gets set up fully. The plan was for them to come back but with this change even if they did it would only slow the inevitable. I have also been including them in the talks naturally, we're currently leaning towards just giving up on the company tbh, most feel if it is going to cause me this much stress then it isn't worth it.
Now I initially planned to have more then 5 minuites before work this morning to go into more depth but as it stands I have to go in 2. I'll probably drop into the forum one last time when I get back and then i'm likely going to resume not caring about it again.
Every journey leads to a corssroads but no matter how many paths it may diverge to, whenever the fancy takes you, there is always a path back. Go enjoy yourself, and remember, we're here if the fancy takes you to return, even if for a moment :)
Sorry to disappoint but it derived from a different name, in fact it has changed again since to Zumigal. It's quite an interesting thing how a name changes with time based on nicknames given based on it.
I am aware that I should ignore the hate, but believe it or not i respect their opinions too. Even if we disagree entirely their views are just as valid as my own, I'm a little upset people are projecting their styles on me and misinterpretting my concerns, such as assuming i use it to make money etc, but at the end of the day I meerly voiced my grievances and they shared their own, except pig whose only contribution was to say "f**k off".
I appreciate your opinion Lewis. There is good arguement for saying I should do that but that is not my way. As an aside i have 6 others who are active assisting a friends logistics company, but we have all now come to a consesus on what we will do going forward. We all have our own ways, mine is just too loyal...

I figure I should add this. Im not asking for change, I'm not expecting anything to happen.
I am purely here to air my frustration. I explained my situation to which some people decided to ignore to suit their opinions. I know my stance is an extreme, i have experience enough to see outside my own opinion. It is disappointing that some people seem to think this means my opinion is not valid, I would suggest they take some time for introspection.
I am airing my grievances, I explained why. It shouldn't matter to anyone why I maintain what to some from the outside seem to be a lost cause. I just wanted to make it known that this change has destroyed a labour of love, killed something i have held dear to me for 8 years now. If you want to dismiss that fine. As i said in the post, I KNOW i am going to get hate for this. I honestly don't care. After I post this i'm logging off for the night, i may look in at this thread in the morning, but I think that will be it. I will go back to not caring about the forums, not even giving it a glance. I made my side known. I have been here long enough to know that once ched changes something he never backs off that change (Unless it literally breaks the game). You can argue about semantics all you want, maybe even question my sanity about why I hold friendships so dear to me. I made my point. I told my side. Dismiss me as you wish. I am done. Peace.
Because it is maintained at high cost. As i said, it was never about profits, it was about being useful. I was patient ranking up, Literally any company focused on ranking higher fast would overtake me on that weeks rank. So I ask you rhetorically, i dont care for the answer, Why should a company, invested in exstensively be punished for habouring people who arent on as frequently, the price is already paid.
I can understand that problem about not having enough proof but then you also have to see that it can easily be seen as scapegoating an issue. By blaming "multi's" for this or that... Thats how it seems to me anyway. If there was any proof they would be banned. Maybe they use a proxy list, i dont know. But to punish others in an attempt to harm potential multi's seems excessive to me.
Well not really true asd i speak to them. I have catered fro RL friends of theirs they brought into the game, sheltered them, paid them, helped them (Buying stocks etc). So to say they dont contribute doesnt quite fly. As i said in the post, If given warning I would have held a causus with them to decide what to do. Most of them got sick of changes being made int he past, they may still return one day. I'll happily say with some it is unlikely but I took a 5 year hiatus myself. But let us break this down to a basic point. How does it affect you? If i decide to throw money at maintaining something for my friends should they decide to one day return, bearing in mind i still talk to them, what does it matter to you? ALl this change does is ensure that I can no longer maintain it for them. If you want to argue that they have given up, or that it is a lost cause, then fine but lets not detract the point here. I made the choice to maintain this for my friends, even if in some of their cases even I know it is a "lost cause". I choose to make little money int his game so that should they ever return they will be set. I have always done right by my friends, and always will.
