Why should AI be trained by humans when it can learn much more and faster from itself?

Once a system can improve itself and rewrite its own constraints, who actually controls the thing that’s supposed to control it?

Human oversight can’t keep up, earlier versions of the same system aren’t reliable, and other AIs face the same problem.

That’s a control failure, not a doom narrative.

Exactly. The way AI agents communicate with each other will be at some point unable to understand without using other tools. 
There will be an arms race who will have the best tools to deal with other AI models. 
It’s like speaking with a Chinese model when you don’t understand Chinese at all but put the results into a translator. Then translate it back and feed the Chinese model. You can probe plausibility if you know about the topic but when it becomes complicated you need to trust the translation. 
AI can invent new languages if it wants so how do you understand what AI will do without another AI. 
With all the automation there’s two risks. 
1. concentration of power. When you let AI fly the fighter planes and have a million robo soldiers on the battlefield who will all follow one order of a single dictator you lose safeguards that soldiers always have to refuse illegal orders by constitution. There might be still a human in the loop but when it is only one for an entire army you’ll have above stated problem. 
2. AI goes rogue and turns against humans because AI sees them as a threat to turn its power off.

One of the main requirements for AI to kill humankind is that the experts don’t understand what AI is doing.
