American approval ratings mean nothing to people not in America. They don't change the way we view Americans (or America as a whole).

And we don't think all people are 'brainwashed' - but the number of Creationist, pro-gun, anti-equality people among you certainly cause concern.

Regards, Australian citizen :)

You can't just make stuff up and say 'end of story', that's not how it works. Cheers for your 'input' though :)

Well that's simply ridiculous. I personally know MORE women that work in coal mines (Aussie equivalent of oil rigs) than I do men - and they are all fantastic at their jobs.

and I wasn't asking for an example, I was asking for the ACTUAL industry being mentioned, not 'example' ones.

That's not what I said. I said your presidential approval ratings mean jack.

1. Their belief in a mystical being is irrelevant. Their rejection of scientific fact (evolution) is an issue.
2. It doesn't determine good or bad. It determines logic. Your shooting statistics compared to countries with gun control demonstrate this fact. No other civilized nation in the world has the same ratio of gun related violence as the US.
3. the anti-equality group are usually the staunch creationist/gun-toting lunatic group. I know it's not a massive issue nation wide, but it is an incredibly serious issue where it does exist. The continued existance of 'post-gay' conversion groups and their 'popularity' is again evidential..

You posted something about approval ratings and how the US is viewed by other nations. I pointed out that they're completey unrelated to one another :) No hating going on here :)

I'm Australian and I would LOVE to rid our flag of the Union Jack (and to become a republic :P )

1. It's not a baby, it's a foetus.

2. It doesn't come out of anywhere, it experiences cell death along with the actual human.

3. Abortions aren't 'bad' to everyone, and certainly shouldn't be left up to other people to decide.

There is a difference between a coma, which you described, and brain death.

Nowadays, brain death can be difinitively determined through scans and tests, and there is absolutely zero chance of them getting it wrong.

She is brain dead. She is not alive - a machine is pumping air into her lungs and blood around her body. That's it.

It's not a child, it's a foetus - and at ONLY 14 weeks, it has no chance of survival. You expect to use a person's body for months - denying their right to die as wished, against their family's wishes to preserve something that isn't alive and doesn't have rights?

You're right - she can't tell. But her family can - it's all about the family's rights.

Having a baby is far from rare, and the family doesn't want it. It should be end of story.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one :)

Life support machines. ·

It's a story about a woman's body being used after she died, against the wishes of her family.... It IS a women's rights topic.

women in the workplace. ·

What type of company do you own? What Industry are you talking about?

Life support machines. ·

I disagree.

She died, it doesn't mean we ignore her rights. People have a right to 'peace' after death - it's why we don't just throw bodies into landfill, or don't cut people up for parts if they haven't consented.

If you do think that a body should be used for the better chances of another simply because they are no longer alive and 'can't tell', then do you agree that organ donation should be compulsory, and not involve consent?

It's a foetus, not a child. It's an important distinction to make.

As I said before, if the foetus has a high chance of survival then it should be 'delivered' so the life support can be turned off because women are human beings, NOT incubators.

Yes of course I would. A person's gender should have no influence on hiring practices.

Seriously.

You deliberately not hire women, for whatever reason, we're allowed to call you out on your sexist douchebaggery.

Except he didn't commit a terrorist act! He didn't have any political goals - which makes up half the definition of terrorist acts....

It. Was. Not. Terrorism.

Terrorism hits Aussie Shores. ·

By that definition, anyone who waves a gun, shoots anyone, attacks random people in the street or screams abuse at innocent people is a terrorist.

Terrorism has political goals. He didn't have goals other than to make a scene about his death. Congratulations, people like you fulfilled his wish.

That's because the world should be past the point where 'discussion' on this topic is necessary. It's like discussing if slavery is ok. We don't need to talk about it becasue it's not ok and everyone knows that.

Everyone knows that women can do whatever the hell we want, so there's no point discussing it :)

Interesting Article about abortion · · 1 like

My biggest issue with people who are anti-abortion is that they are usually that way because of their religion. Another person's religion is entirely irrelevant to what I do with my body.

The reason that abortion in the first and second trimester is legal in civilised nations is because laws are worked off facts. It is fact that a foetus isn't conscious, isn't capable of feeling or experiencing emotion, pain or sensations prior to at least 20 weeks when physiological changes start occurring. People that reject those facts shouldn't be taken seriously when it comes to debating abortion law.

Just as vegans/vegetarians who simply don't eat animal products/meat ''just because" shouldn't be taken seriously when debating eating habbits.

When we present facts and evidence, we can have a discussion - otherwise it's just noise.

Yes he was a criminal, and yes he was a nutter. But he was not a terrorist - there were no political objectives to his attack - it was simply an attendion grabbing attempt at suicide. He spent his life being 'known' for his actions, so that's how he wanted to die.

He didn't do anything to 'redeem' himself, it was always intended as suicide. He was already abused in prison (part of the reason he was bailed) and his lawyer has already stated that he never intended to go back.
