I've been mentoring a few new players to Torn and I just had a interesting conversation with one of them. I've been talking to this guy for about 2 weeks now and he's working very hard to build his account up, trading what he can where he can. He doesn't ask for handouts, rather hates them actually and he's so appreciative of the tiniest help (advice). He's very proud of his accomplishments but doesn't flaunt them.
He would make an outstanding member of the game/ community in the future but he's thinking of quitting altogether.. This came around as he has found another player the exact same age with 10 times his stats and pretty impressive income. It has completely put him off Torn, knowing there could be 100's if not 1000's of people his age that are restarts or "spoonfed" growing at a rate he (An actual new player) can't compete with.
This got me thinking, is it just him? How many new players get put off by seeing the same? How long can Torn last at this rate?
Granted.. You're never going to be the best, there's always going to be someone better (Exception for BodyBagger?). But if you can't even compete with people your own age, what chance do you have other than picking on players younger than yourself? Thus causing the same effect on them.
Just putting this out there, if this is happening everyday; I don't see Torn lasting as long as expected.
*I asked the player for permission to post this, he wishes to remain anonymous.*
Just had a quick mental brainstorm about this after seeing the forum adverts for Torn.. It'd be a server job (Like the army or medical etc.) I know the idea doesn't really fit in as the whole idea of torn is you're a criminal but the chance to be a corrupt police officer is well.. exciting and could bring so many twists on the everyday life of Torn.
Could branch into so many law enforcement roles - Swat, DA with possible perks being endless (Job points wise). Such as raiding another players home for cash, drugs or weapons. Stealing from evidence room, gaining % boost in successful crimes. Even arresting/ jailing other players for said amount of job points or the complete opposite; Being able to free them from jail.
Possible job progressions/ roles:
Recruit - Steal from the evidence room (Chance to gain weapon/ drugs) [Requires job points] Constable - [No perk (?)] Sergeant - Ability to raid another players home (Chance for money, weapons or drugs) [Requires job points] Lieutenant - Gain x% chance to complete crimes successfully. [Passive] Police chief - Ability to jail other players [Requires job points]
Pro-update (+5 roles/ progressions)
I know it sounds really broken but as with anything it could be tweaked to fit the game. Ofcourse this open to discussion - As with any suggestion it's going to have pros and cons on the community. Just a really faded idea at the moment - Hope you guys can have input and help me come up with some solid ideas!
It was very fun and a really refreshing idea! Thank-you Daisy for the prizes and hosting <3 Congrats to the other winners & if you host another Daisy would be happy to donate to the prize(s) & help.
Director earns a daily wage as he is basically doing all the work. Not fair for the 'stock holders' to reap all the profit and the director gets nothing. Unless they have a considerable % of the holdings but even then it would be less than they would get from owning it solo.
Edit: R+, would be interested in this and the mechanics it would bring. Edit 2.0: Probably better in the Suggestions section rather than Company discussion.
Just wondering what in your opinion(s) is the best thing(s) to spend missions credits on? I heard a while back that sometimes books are offered but I've never seen one so other than books is it just weapon mods?
Also, based on any previous calculations does anybody know a good credit to $ ratio regarding buying items?
For instance: I currently have an offer for 100 morphine, costing 416 credits that makes it 4.16 credits per morphine Market price for morphine is currently around $41,500 each meaning it just under $10,000 value per credit.
I also have the offer of a flamethrower for 468 credits which is lower value per credit than above.
Has this been worked out discussed somewhere/ by somebody before? I had a quick search through but couldn't see anything.
R- Your work is bad. It's text on an image with some basic animations you can get for free on google. You're contributing to the downfall of the graphics community and people are loving it.
Played a text based yeaaarrrss ago where you could do this but it was all html, you could do absolutely anything to your profile but the core elements/ information was still there (You could decide where to place them though). I spent hours and hours on there just browsing random people profiles - The creativity of some were simply amazing.
OT: I would like some more profile customization options even if they are stock ones like you mentioned (Maybe country flags would be nice?) - That being said, with our current focus on 2.0 releases I don't see this happening anytime soon (Unless it becomes profiles 2.0? :D)
