I've been at this game for well over a year, and now I see newbies at 90 days owning and running their own companies successfully, they're even making a profit! So I figured it's time for me to put some money into my dream of starting a company already! I've been drooling over the benefits of an adult novelty and how early you get the dvds for jp.
To give you some background before I ask my questions: I am close to getting both Stock benefits for owning a company (more efficient advertising and +10% price increase), I'll also be about half way through the Business Management courses by the time I start up (I know the courses are VERY important!) And lastly, I have a pretty solid income with flower runs and trading points, and some money saved up in the bank.
The questions I'd like to know is mostly the importance and effect of the individual positions of the company. I know this much from studying the help pages, but it fails to explain the importance of each position. A little clarification on each of these would be deeply appreciated :) An added bonus would be suggestions to which positions to fill out first, and how many employees to put in each position for optimal profits and efficiency (to the best of your knowledge, I'm trusting you guys!)

My current thoughts on this is paying around $50k - $200k depending on stats, then at the time we reach 3* we can start getting 1 DVD per week worth about $2.4m, which translates to a pay of a little more than $300k per day, which is a good point to lower the pay to $30 - $100k depending on stats. The higher the star rating, the higher their pay in DVDs are!
I am open for suggestion of course!
My last question is concerning advertisement. I admit I could've studied this more on my own, but since I have your attention... :) Is there a strategy you prefer for advertisements? I'm think of starting with the Standard rate to begin with, then as the positions are filled, and other pieces fall into place, I'll up it to Expensive rates. (I will also have the stock ben. which raises the efficiency of advertising.) Any suggestions on this matter?

I just thought I should report an update on my findings with starting an Adult Novelty business (or business in general really...)
This information might be valuable for players like me that still haven't run a business yet :)
- Everyone tells me - not a single business owner has said otherwise - to get you Bachelors degree in Business Management. I wasn't too happy with that answer, but I'm convinced that it must be done, unless you have a butt load of money to burn through...
- Some of my tips for getting the education over as quickly as possible are
- Get the Passive bonus from the Educator Job in Torn City; it reduces all future course lengths by 10%. If you already have the work stats, this only takes 25 days to pull off.
- Join a faction that has Adept VIII (my faction only has IV) which shaves off another 20% off education course length.
- Invest Merits into reducing education course length (2% per merit invested.)
- Get a job with Fitness Center for it's 1* Special to "30 minute education time reduction (1 jp)". Of course, the higher star rating on the company, the more hours you can remove daily, the faster you'll be done!
- And Lastly, but not suggested... buy items like Book of Carols to remove a set amount of hours. These items are very expensive, and I wouldn't personally suggest investing THAT much into finishing your studies a few hours faster, but to each their own!
- Also, while studying, you should find the money to invest into the stock benefit blocks from TC Media Production (currently $305.5m: Grants +10% profits!) and from Tell Group Plc. (Currently $293.5m: Increased advertisement efficiency.)
- It turns out that when you're the director of a company, there's a description for each position, saying what purpose they fill.
- The benefits of having all the education courses done, is that you'll most likely have 100% environment once you upgrade the size of the company to full. So you won't need to waste an employee to work as a cleaner to keep the environment at 100%.
- One of my faction friends gave me very good advice for keeping your company stocked up: Start off by stocking up for two days. From there look at yesterdays sales and order that amount of the items sold. This will always keep you stocked up, and will make sure you get the most popular items.
