I approach the hill once more, and see it is occupied by someone I don't know. Social anxiety takes control and I run away to play some weird text-based crime RPG.

Panderp's hill.

Here's mine

She finally looks deep into him-- no longer at him-- truly seeing her guardian for the first time. She cocked her head with curiosity and stared a moment, her hair falling a bit to one side, her eyes faintly flickering with some unknown light. She reached out and put one hand on Faes cheek, still watching him, seeming as though she was trying diligently to read him.

After a short stillness, the woman pulled her hand back gently, and let it rest at her side. After a moments hesitation, she kissed him quickly, then nodded at him, a silent show of gratitude.

Fae flinched at the contact. He pulled back and stumbled over his words. I- Miss, who are you? How did you get here-- wherever here is-- and-- by the Light-- how are you alive-- surely, you are cold as the depths-- one would surely freeze in such apparel-- not that there is anything amiss with it-- its truly lovely-- what I mean is-- Light above, what are you doing here? She remained expressionless. She took his hand and held it first to her chest, then brought it to a flower at her feet: a singular, deep red rose, sticking out of the snow, persevering through the bloodied winter that had killed all its sisters. She was warm, as though a campfire smoldered beneath her breast-- not as a raging inferno, no, more akin to the last few glowing coals of a peacefully dying flame. Comfortably warm, not violently so.

Fae hesitated. Heart.. Flower. Rose. Your heart, and a rose? I dont understand what you are trying to tell me.. She shook her head and repeated the action. Your chest is a rose? Your chests rose-- She shook her head again. She picked the flower out of the ground and desperately forced it against her chest along with his hand, thorns pressing into her skin. This is your flower. Your rose. Youre Rose.. Your name is Rose..? She nodded finally, and dropped his hand. Then she took the flower, quickly pricked her fingertip with one of the spines, and brought the finger across her throat. The blood left a maroon trail, but quickly parted, revealing a much older path: a scar, both smooth and jagged, tracing its way across her neck, parallel to her shoulders. Your throat.. it was cut. That is why you cannot speak? Rose nodded again. He sighed, and sheathed his blade, taking her hand in its place.

We must get you help, if you stay here much longer you shall surely wither like the rest of the roses. Come, Light willing, that village will have food, drink, or at least warmth-- He began walking towards the houses, but she pulled him back with surprising force, knocking him to the ground. She glared down at him with trembling fire in her powerful eyes. For the first time, she showed emotion-- and it was fear.

Fae looked back up at her, still learning how to communicate with her. You.. youre afraid. Those people.. did they do this to you?

She helped him up. Rose nodded, then began making motions with her hand. First she pointed her first two fingers down, but separated-- a person. She covered the sign with her other hand, and when she showed it again, it had changed-- she now held her pointer and thumb together, arching the rest of her fingers behind them, such that it resembled the head of an animal. Fae thought for a moment. Not people, then. Animals? Beasts of some sort. That.. that thing that I killed.. was it one of them? She nodded again, and let her hands rest by her side. Why did they attack you? Rose hesitated, then picked up a pinecone in her hand and looked at it for a few moments; beautifully complex, simple patterns of spikes swirling around the base. She closed her eyes, and as she did, the pinecone caught fire, enveloped in soft, blue flame, and in an instant, everything made sense. They.. they fear you. Just as much as you fear them. Maybe more. Light above.. The fire dimmed as she opened her eyes. She turned away from him to face the village, wrapping her arm around the husk of a tree as she did. Rose, what are you thinking? Her hand grabbed the bark tighter, and the snow began to melt around her fingertips. The tree began to catch, slowly, like the pinecone, and Fae understood. You want them all to suffer. To burn, and to die. Recompense against them all for the actions of the few.

She turned back towards him again, taking her hand from the tree. Her face was almost expressionless again, but he could see for a brief second that it was in fact filled with anger. Desire to kill. By the Light.. You want to kill them all or die trying. And you want me to help you. She blinked softly, her expression unchanged. She brushed her middle finger against the edge of her dress, setting it aflame, and she let it burn off her now-bare skin. Only the intricate golden designs remained, now revealed to be scars and burns in myriad patterns. Rose put her hand on his cheek, and kissed him deeply, trying to tempt him. It worked. After a slight hesitation, Fae closed his eyes and took her hand. I shall fight beside you to take these monsters from the world. Let us go, and shine the Light upon their crimes.

They reached the village, and all was still-- had it not been for Faes hunter instincts, he wouldve believed it was completely deserted. He quietly drew his sword, and motioned for Rose to begin her work. As soon as she touched her palm to the first house, it began to burn a bright mixture of red, blue, and white. Screams of the damned beasts were heard from inside, and several of the creatures began to run towards her. Fae protected her as she hurriedly rushed from building to building setting the village aflame. One of the beasts managed to dig its claws deep in his cheek, leaving a dripping wound that would never fully heal. He slashed the monsters throat open with one masterful motion, and thrust the blade into the stomach of another. He turned to look at Rose, as she approached the last building, and became distracted for an instant. That was all that was necessary. A creature pounced on him, knocking him to the ground, and began tearing at his chest. He waited for his opportunity, then flipped the beast on its back and drove his sword through its skull. As it died, he noticed faint patterns flowing over its legs-- intricate designs in its skin, scars and burns in myriad patterns. No.. I..

Rose walked up to him and helped him up, his body now covered in scars of his own. She smiled at him, kissed his cheek, and turned to admire her handiwork-- a burning city, and dozens of dead soulless beings.

She screamed as his sword dug into her back and through her heart. He looked down at her with contempt. Now I understand. These beasts.. these shivering beings are murderers, ruthless killers, and you-- you created them. You created them and they rebelled. He pushed her to the ground, letting her body slide off his blade. You are as guilty as they are, and now I shall cleanse you both from this earth. There shall be no more killers. He held the grip of the blade tightly with two hands now. There shall be no more killers. Fae drove his sword into his own heart, and fell to the ground beside Rose. He stared up at the sky as he bled out into the snow. gasped for air, and finally, gave his last words to a dead audience. Light.. forgive me. His eyes fluttered closed and he let out a deep breath.

Deep in the woods, the last rose in all the forests in all the world dropped its final petal, and sank into the pastel-white wasteland.

THE END

Couldn't quite figure out how to rig it to our tiny christmas tree, but here's a giant T for Torn made out of knives and swords (yes, they're all real)

Definitely Bob, from Bits 'n' Bobs.

He's got several noteworthy tricks he pulls. Buys pretty much anything at way below what its worth. Charges $175 for a single red rose.

And he named his company based on a pun, for god's sake. If that isn't the capital sin, I don't know what is.

Just look at that face and tell me he's not the devil incarnate.

Nice: wrote letters to all my closest friends and teachers telling them all how absolutely wonderful they are.

Naughty: Sold my entire body, but specifically my virgin ass, to cranberi for a couple of drug packs.
