07/19/2019 - Reviving this from the dead as I haven't seen any similar ideas since. Random plane crashes would add RISK to flying, thus possibly decreasing the number of travelers/runners and increasing the demand in flowers/plushies. With Point prices at a low (and flowers/plushies by extension), this could possibly be part of the solution to that problem?
Forgive me if I'm overreaching or being silly because of my inexperience, but I thought about this while travelling.
Plane crashes would be a pretty good random event. Much like overdosing on drugs, there would be a very small chance of crashing while travelling and you will lose what you bought overseas or lose a % of the money you have on hand, or you lose a random item. Then you would be "Lost at Sea" as opposed to being in jail or hospitalized.
A new related job class would be something like Search & Rescue. Where Medical class can revive or Lawyer class can bust out of jail, Search & Rescue can rescue you from being "Lost at Sea".
As of right now, the only risk in travelling is being mugged overseas. This suggestion would slightly make travelling more "fun", as there's more risk involved. Not sure how it would affect prices, but those who flower/plushie/drug run could see increases in prices due to the inherent risk.
Any more ideas on this would be appreciated!
*** Below are more great ideas other players have suggested, please check out the discussion!***
Some ideas brought forth:
You should be able to rescue yourself after a plane crash, much like taking meds to get out of Hospital, or Busting yourself out of Jail.
New Education (navigation/survival skills)
New Job class (Search & Rescue)
New Merits/player banners (Search & Rescue, Lost At Sea, Moby Dick, Jaws)
New Faction upgrades/perks related to Travel (currently there is only Excursion upgrade...)
Start off with simple crash event; players don't lose anything except for possible time delay to get to their destination.
Balance the negatives with some positives: "Smooth Travel" "Catch the Wind" - Random chance of getting to your destination X% faster. - Melted
While group attacks are great in the right situations, often times during chains people waste a lot of e joining an attack that's practically over. If you join an active attack and the target is taken down before you do anything, you've just wasted 25e.
jesterJ joined the fight 15:12:39
Bob hit Rob with his Diamond Bladed Knife for 1300 15:12:40
Solution: Change "Join Fight" to something more distinctive. Nobody reads that before joining a fight anyway. Instead, add/change the confirmation before joining an attack: "This person is already being attacked! Continue?" or "Your target is already being attacked! Do you want to proceed with the attack?"
I don't think there should be a confirmation before joining a fight, that would just be a pain
I think it could however grey out the "Start Fight" button, and add an additional button below the attack button, (Which is greyed out when its not a group attack) called "Join Attack"
This means when you use muscle memory to quickly click the "Start fight" button, nothing will happen and you will have to make the conscious choice to click "Join attack"
The Renegades is currently recruiting for active players. We are a young faction and looking to help new members get a good start in Torn! Anyone, including newbies, is welcome to apply and we only ask that you are active and be in Torn when Organized Crimes are ready to be completed.
Without getting into much detail, does any kind of real world stock analysis techniques work for Torn City stock market? I haven't had much in-game money to research my own stock trends and I'm wondering if anyone tried charting their own stocks to find resistance/support levels, bullish/bearish trends, etc. I'm assuming fundamental analysis won't work because there's no financial information for any of the stocks? Basic technical analysis might be more plausible as you can follow the charts.
Just thought it'd be a fun discussion to have for you stock traders/investors. :)
Bumping this as I'm experiencing the same, except on Firefox MacOS. Only confirmation I got that it's "running" was when it asked for a public API key, then nothing.
it's weird... TornTools works fine on Firefox on my Macbook but not on Firefox on my Windows desktop. Hopefully more people chime in with the same problem
EDIT: never mind. only parts of TornTools works on Macbook Firefox. Quick items/quick crimes disappeared
Firefox - Anyone else having an issue where all TornTools features disappear from Torn? It's like it's nonexistent when clicking through the actual Torn website
EDIT: Okay, so the TornTool features randomly pop up from time to time (sometimes I don't even need to refresh the page), but if I refresh or go to another page, it disappears again.
Just want to verify if there ever has been an award for completing all education? I could've sworn there was a Honor Bar that came with it. For some reason I keep picturing a honor bar that's tan/brownish with a Lady Justice holding a scale and some other symbols.
I figured adding the second layer of confirmation will help players with muscle memory from spamming the Start Fight button, but I agree with your idea of disabling the "Start Fight" button and "forcing" the player to click Join Attack instead! Good idea... i've quoted you in the initial post.
yell louder - I don't think anyone's heard you yet. But for discussion's sake - this suggestion changes nothing of the core "attacking" gameplay; why are you so invested against it?
