First of all this is not exactly a guide as much as opinions and advice. Let's start with what not to do in Torn.
What not to do
1) Don't beg. I'm begging the new players, please don't beg for money or items. You'll just piss off older players and they'll bounty your ass.
2)Don't join a faction for at least 14 days. You get immunity from older players for 14 days from your joining day, only players who can attack you are the ones that are new to the game(who are not older than 14 days). If you join a faction it halts your game progress a lot because you will be in hospital the whole time.
3)Don't fall for scams. Torn is filled with scammers. Let's say you find an item in the city, first check it's value in the market and then sell it.
4)Don't keep a lot of money on your hand. People are always looking to mug you.
5)Don't boast about your net worth or stats on any of the chats. People are always waiting for an opportunity to strike.
6)Don't use your energy to search the dump. Yes! this is a mistake many new players do. I did it myself, I spent who knows how much energy to search the dump only to end up with bunch of flowers or bricks. Instead use your energy to train or attack.
7)Don't go for high nerve crimes as soon as you start. Go with searching for money(2N) or Selling illegal CD's(3N) for a while before going for high nerve crimes.
8)Don't gamble. You'll end up loosing more money than you make.
9)Don't spend your merits on awareness. I know it sounds weird but spending merits on awareness is no use. Instead spend them on either battle stat gains or education.
What to do
1)IRC! Three magical letters. I said don't beg for money or items, but that doesn't mean you won't get anything for free. Every now and then there are giveaways in Torn IRC(https://www.torn.com/irc/lightIRC/index.html) Some giveaways are for things like candies and some are for awesome items like Donator Packs.
2)Speaking of Donator Packs, get one. They cost around $5. If you can't afford to pay $5, you can always buy DP's with game money. They cost around 23M. I know what you're thinking 'I'm a new player. How am I supposed to get 23M for a DP?'.
4)Rent a PI or a castle. They might cost a lot but they are totally worth it. Where do I get the money to do that? Simple, sell that goodie bag for 21-23M, my advice is that don't open the goodie bag, it's not worth it.
5)Ask for help from older players. Notice how I say ask for help and not beg. Ask them about game mechanics and community, there are several players on global chat who will gladly help you to understand the game.
6)Join a company. As soon as you reach lvl 3, join a company. Don't be greedy. Take whatever pay they offer(it won't hurt you to negotiate) because you'll be getting regular trains. I personally advice new guys to join either a flower shop or toy shop. Flowers and Plushies are always in demand and you can make a lot of profit.
7)Trading! The most important part of torn. I suggest you buy 100 beers everyday. You can buy the for 5 bucks and sell them for 750 buck each if you can find the right buyer.
8)Find a spouse. Go back to point number 4, it sounds like PI's and castle cost a lot right? Split the rent with a spouse. Just make sure not to fall for scams.
9)Buy a bazaar for 250 points from the points building.Bazaars can be really helpful.

Hi everyone, my name is Warlord1995 and I was a multi.
I'm sure this'll get me a few bounties from people who have played the game honestly from day 1 and get a few dislikes as well (rightfully so).
I started playing torn when I was 18 (5 years ago) and for first month or so I wasn't really into the game, I'd login once or twice a day but after making 10m thanks to casino I really got into the game and also reached level 15 and started travelling a lot to get plushies and flowers.
This time around I started getting bored while traveling and decided that I needed another account to play while I travelled and created another account (no I did not refer my brother or sister or a family member, it was my account and I always used it and no one else did). After I made my 1st billion, I gambled it away in bookie in just few weeks.
After losing 1b+, I basically quit the game (I'd login every now and then). But when lockdown started here due to COVID-19, I got bored out of my mind despite working 10+ hours from home and decided to get back into the game.
On my account I didn't have a job or a faction as I was inactive but I had a grocer job on my multi and had accumulated a shit ton of job points and made 400m from one single trade selling all my cans and continued to use multis. I didn't transfer any money or do any transactions with my multis this time around although I continued take advantage in other ways.
And then the reckoning day arrived, I was logged into multis and selling revives and someone contacted me for revives and being a dumbass I started reviving from my multi and the guy who had contacted me asked if I had changed my name in last few minutes as a different person was reviving the target and I realized my jig was up as the other person had reported me most likely and went inactive for a few days and then logged back in again few days later and continued my usual activity for a few hours and then baaaam!! I got banned.
My multi was worth 644m when I got banned.
At first I thought it was a permanent ban but I was banned for 7 days and the ban was lifted after 7 days. Amazingly I had transferred nearly 50m in forms of cash, xanax and morphine from my multis and that amount was deducted from my account.
I started off with negative money on hand and started selling what I had in my inventory (from Christmas Town) and once I got some money from it, rented a PI and started travelling for xanax, plushies and flowers. Also started selling revives like a madman.
Now my networth is 550m+ and I'm in the reviving HoF
I've personally voted for casual. Like not saying change the core mechanics of, that would be really unfair to a lot of older players who happen to be hardcore players. But I do think experience for casual players can be enhanced if there's something to do while travelling since travelling is a main source of income (maybe more countries can be added or different facilities can be added in already existing destinations etc)
I'm currently posting this with TornTools enabled.
When DB gets dropped, 'Search Subway' option gets disabled in 'Search for Cash' crime (if you actually click on the option and enter the 'searchforcash' page)
But in the front page of the 'Crimes', if you hover over all options in 'Search for Cash' section, you will see the 'Search the Subway' option as well and right now it says 'Search the Subway (78%)'
Not sure if this has been posted already but looks like a bug to me. If the search option is disabled for subway then it also should not show up in the main page (Tried the same in my phone and in my browser with Torn tools disabled)

On my Android device, whenever I open the torn app and go to crimes page, the order of the crimes gets shuffled for a few seconds and then goes back to normal
In Burglary crime, if something fails during casing then that particular entry gets locked for some time with the Status: Too dangerous But if you go to the Burglary page after this time has elapsed, the Casing button will still be red but time remaining will be 0 and you won't be able to case or burgle that particular entry. After that case or burgle a different building, the button next to the failed entry gets enabled and you can case it again (sometimes it does enabled if you refresh or leave it it idle for some time)
Not sure if I should create another post for this, but we have the same issue with Burglary as well. Once you successfully burgle a place, that card does not disappear until and unless you refresh or do something with another buildig
Let's say I have 19 cards collected in a post office and I click on recover button, the number of cards doesn't go down until you recover other cards or refresh the page.
Got confused twice while recovering because I recovered but the number of cards didn't go down and the recover button next to it was disabled.
Not sure if this was designed this way specifically, but it's kinda confusing
Noticed something weird: While doing the Junkyard search button gets disabled when you lose some life while doing the crime (you can see the event below)
17:27:09 - 24/06/23 You used 2 nerve and critically failed searching the junk yard losing 652 life
You can refresh the page and continue doing the crimes after that
Sorry, added the wrong steps to reproduce the issue.
Actual Steps: - Click on the Award button which will take you to Honors - Click on Use button next to Merits and that will take you to Merits - Switch to Honors or Medals - Click on Use button next to Merits now and it will not take you to the Merits page
If you click on Use button next to Merits and then switch to either Medals or Honors and then click on Use button again, it doesn't take you to Merits page.
It works if you directly go to awards page, switch between Medals and Honors and then click on Use, it will take you to the Merits tab but if you switch back to Medals and Honors and try the same thing again, it won't work.
If you open a forum post and click on the back button, you're always redirected to the first page.
If I navigate to let's say page 100, open a post in that page and click on back, I'm navigated back to the first page. It's a pain to again navigate back to that page.
I was in stock market UI and hovered over my bank investment icon and the top part of the flashcard that appears when you hover over the icons in the Information section is disappearing behind the torn homepage logo. Attached screenshot as well for your reference[image: profileimages.torn.com]
But they introduced the stock market fee as well, which would discourage a lot of people from doing that if you ask me One good thing about travelling was that you could still sell/buy stocks abroad. Flying became even more boring as if that was even possible.
