I think it would be beneficial to have an auction reserve you can set so you can keep your item if you dont get the minimum you are looking for. I even think as an offset to this benefit you can pay out a small $ of the minimum you set if the item isn't sold. That payment would go to the highest bidder at the end of the auction if the reserve isnt met. This arrangement would deter players from setting a higher reserve than necessary, but also reward someone who would have won the bid.
