So, I got 2k something arson crimes and a NNB of 35, but lately, as I go around to turn warehouses into bonfires, I have been ending up in the hospital much more often than before. More precisely, I was hospitalized 5 or 6 times in the last two weeks, which is my worse success rate since I started arson crimes.
Maybe I just got unlucky with the RNG, but is there any other factor that could have influenced the results? I only do the warehouse arson crimes lately, so no jail time.

The point is, I don't even know exactly what it does.
So, I recently joined a faction with the education time reduction upgrade and also spent some merits in the perk that speeds it up. In both cases, I noticed that the time left to finish my current course didn't decrease immediately. So do the effects only take place when I start my next course? Or they started something like 24 hours later and I didn't notice?

Thanks for the input. I hope this bad luck streak is finished by now.
