Let see, why the child feel embarrassed about tell someone about he like circus? What event twist the story, the argument can´t be lineal and the character need reason to do something that make it more real. I suppose you don´t write it yet, right? and I think can write first more about the character, why he love circus? Why he write diagram in his notebook? Why he fell embarrassed about it? And why he chose go to the circus now?

I read your comment 2 post up where you say why he feel shame that some know he love circus. But I think you can strong up the reason ...In "Darren Shan Saga" wrote by Darren Shan (pen name), the child of the town love circus.
