Count Zero is the name of the protagonist in book two of the Sprawl Trilogy by William Gibson which I reread a few weeks ago.

Count Zero eventually ties himself into a mammoth AI with enough RAM to contain all of the information in our reality including the personalities of every inhabitant along with the ability to allow them to grow, change and learn, which is kind of how I think of Torn.
