For a week I was wondering why our faction's funds remaining was in the negative. I started investigating and was getting rather upset at the fact that I couldn't trust my own real life friends whom I recruited on Torn.
Turns out I was wrong, the reason money was missing was because we did 2 organized crimes that paid in item rewards. In the Torn Wiki in the Organized Crime section, the payout section states that:
So what effectively happened is that we wasted 14 million dollars paying our faction members for an organized crime whose rewards were ultimately flushed down the toilet because we didn't have the relevant storage unlocked.
I'm glad it was only 14 million dollars but honestly from a game system perspective I think at minimum there should be a warning that says "You are about to payout your faction members for rewards that will be lost due to your faction's lack of armory for this category of item. Are you sure you want to do this?"
That would at least make it clear that the items would be lost and that it's generally not advisable. What would be even better is a mechanism that prevents you from paying out money instead of distributing items if you don't have the armory to store the items.
Or maybe I'm still misunderstanding how it works?
How to reproduce:
Be part of a faction that does not have drug armory unlocked
Successfully achieve a crime providing drug item rewards
Payout participating members by splitting market value of the items that can be paid out to participants
The items are lost and the person executing the payout is not advised of that outcome
Let us remind ourselves of the wisdom in the writings of the holy scriptures:
"Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few." - Ecclesiastes 5:2, KJV
Thank you for the reply. So the items aren't lost, as the wiki claims? I guess its time to start earning enough respect to reclaim those rewards !
Still, until you make that change, a warning would be nice. I understand that it might be way at the bottom of your backlog but I thought I should mention it anyways.

I thought about putting it in the bug report but the fact that the wiki states that "item rewards earned which go into an armoury that a faction does not own would be lost" seems to suggest that this is the way it is intended to work. But you make a good point though, maybe I should post there instead.
