I'd wager that you could pull up the top 100 levels list and probably find almost 100% of them have tags. Hence why everyone else hates the dog tag event so much.

The Team Elimination event was a far better organized event / concept. It's optional participation, and a level 5 can contribute to the team just as much a level 100.

I'm not saying the dog tag event should be punted, because it shouldn't. It's a cool idea, it just needs tweaked a little. Make it so you can only pull tags off people within 5 of your level or something like that. Optional participation would be fine, but not necessary. Plenty of ways to make it better.

IIL Stock Prediction & Thoughts · · 1 like

This is a stock I have watched for some time, as it's an interesting reflection of the current investment status in the game.

The total stock shares has jumped from roughly 3 billion shares to well over 8 billion shares in the course of only a month or two. Quite a jump, but maybe this has historical precedent? This without a stock movement price is...well...weird. There must be something artificial behind this, but I think several others have proven this isn't really a supply and demand marketplace anyway. Just interesting.

Either way, it's unfortunate that every time I log on (and I log on several times a day) and want to buy this stock it's still at 0. Someone is pouring a lot of money into this (well, relatively a lot of money to a player like me, but probably not that much for some others). Maybe they know something? This was happening far before it's GOOD / VERY GOOD ratings.

Count me as someone who thinks that the stock script is disproportionately giving some an advantage over others, but I'm not going to raise a big mess about it. Some people are allowed to cheat the system in almost every online video game. They take the risk of getting caught. I'll pass.

Is a monthly subscription to Torn worth it? · · 2 likes

To the OP:

Whether you decide to spend money or not should be about answering the question "What value do I get with my money?".

With the example of the "It's only a Starbuck's coffee a month", some people would value a cup of coffee more than they value the input they get in the game here. After all, it's "fake money".

There are a lot of people that value a product that brings them joy / happiness / excitement. It's the same reason you buy the coffee / alcohol / video game / etc.

Torn brings 2 values. One is that you get some small advantage in a game that those paying do not. It's not a huge advantage, but it is definitely a difference. If that matters to you, then subscribe for that reason (but you can almost the same by buying donator packs once a month).

Secondly, it allows Ched and others a measure of predicted income to allow him to allocate staff and budget for the year. That one doesn't matter nearly as much to you and me as it does to the owner and staff. People that subscribe tend to stay subscribers (for the most part) in any program. People that give one time donations, even if it is regularly, will often cease or change their donation far more frequently. Yes, the subscriber gets a couple extra carrots thrown their way, but proportionally it isn't that much different.

Honestly, it really comes down to your view of if you

1) Pay to get ahead in the game. (If you do, subscribing isn't likely to get you to your goal as you'll likely end up having to buy several donator packs to get there)

2) Support the game because you like certain features (If you do, you might be better off giving monthly or in large bunches to send messages about what you like / dislike)

3) Support the game because you like the game and staff (This is where a subscription will have the most benefit over monthly donation packs)

I personally choose #3 because I think its a good game that provides me enjoyment for my time spent. You may feel differently, and that's ok. Your money.

Point taken. I didn't say it was the end all, be all solution. I simply threw it out there as a suggestion. If I thought it was "The Solution", I would have spent more time defending it.

Your edit comment is interesting though. That would be the initial assumption, yes. Ultimately though, depending on competition length, those tags would still filter up slowly. In a 1 day competition I would agree wholeheartedly with your assumption. Over 30 days I'm not sure. It would be an interesting test to see.

I wonder if there's a way to restrict participation to those that are currently adequately leveled? Is that even possible? Say you can't participate unless you don't have level ups pending? I would think it's possible, but I don't know the intricacies of the game. However, it would solve your proposed problem immediately.

How is this thread not in the graveyard yet? It's really still considered a productive conversation?

Bump

Any progress on this? Do we have to wait until the dog tag competition is over? I miss searching around town. Hopefully they've been accumulating over this time. Would be a nice surprise.

Xanax at level 3. Really accelerated my early game. Very thankful.

Spin The Wheel - Real Waste Of Money · · 5 likes

As frustrating as it is to get throat punched / lose over and over, spin the wheel is most likely a winning proposition as Ched has said in the past. There's a reason you're only allowed to spin once a day.

We'll use the big wheel as an example: Let's say you throw out the PI and the donator pack. In my personal experience, I probably average somewhere around $0.5 million per spin. A lot of losses / throat punches / 5 point "wins", but those get offset to some extent by the $2 million / $1.5 million / 25 point / 125 point wins. Let's call it $0.5 million a spin. That means you would have to win a Donator pack roughly every 50 days to "make a profit" even without the PI spot. You'd have to win a PI once every 1000 spins or so... you know, 3 years worth of spins.

I would not be surprised if Ched set the likelihood ratio of hitting the PI at 1 in 1000 and the donator pack at 1 in 100. Even at those ratios, the wheel is a net win, but 99.9% of that reason is because of the PI slot.

So yes, in summary, the wheel is something you should do every day if you plan to play Torn in the long term. Several guides have referred to Torn as a marathon, not a sprint. I would say the wheel falls under that philosophy.

Good luck, and screw over Leslie and his handsome son Bryan!

Not sure if it helps or not, but I thought I'd let you guys know I've had the same issue for the last couple days. Both on phone and computer.

Hail the almighty trump! · · 3 likes

Meh. The outcome is what it is.

I'll find it hilarious in about a month or so when, for the first time in years / decades / whatever, a President-Elect will be on trial and sitting on the hot seat in a court room. Trump University for the win!

In all seriousness, both candidates by the major parties were terrible, and the third party options weren't great either. Voting for the leader of our country shouldn't be about picking the least worst candidate. Big failure on both national political committees. Should have been Kasich and Bernie.

At the risk of repeating what as already been said, but wanted to make it clear:

1) OP believes that DP should be treated as a special case since it is $$$ being brought into the game.
2) The Pawn Shop exists partly for this exact reason. It's a way to sell a DP for $$$ without making it obvious to everyone else in Torn.
3) Hence, if you don't want it known that you're trading it, sell it to the Pawn Shop. Yes, it's slightly less money than market, but not when you consider the ~10% mugging discount.
4) Also, I agree with everyone else here. It's Torn. It's a crime game. No offense, but I expect this crap to happen to me daily. It's part of the fun of playing the game.

Newbie? Welcome to Torn, We are here to Help you ·

First off, let me thank you for your generosity! Mighty nice of everyone to donate.

I, being a new-ish player (lvl 13, less than 50 days old, etc.) would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance if you do decide to share the wealth. Would be happy to contribute back in the future once I get to lvl 15 at least to get a better income stream going.

I realize that my net worth is slightly above that of the starting suggestion. I got really lucky with a couple spins on the million dollar wheel... :) Its ok if you don't want to send me the starter pack for help, I'm just happy to try and compete for the second pack.

Game 21:

Why should I give you a lot of money / big item?

Why: I'm actually a new player, and have been playing the game for slightly over a month. I've really taken to enjoying this game, and a large gift from a person such as yourself would be very helpful in my success.

Honestly, because you can? Hell if I know why... me love you long time, I guess? :)

What will I do: Probably buy some stuff. :) Will probably use the opportunity to invest more in the stock market and / or a good business.

What makes me different: Like I said, new player and all. I also happen to enjoy Scrubs and work in the medical field, which makes it all the more relevant. Did you know it's one of the most factually correct shows about medicine, especially compared to stuff like ER and Grey's Anatomy? Figured I'd share this little tidbit for ya:

Look at that. Snuck in a meme and won't even qualify or Game 22. Ah well.

Have a great day!

Thanks to all my fellow Lettuce bretheren. Fun time.

As to all the people who argue back and forth... If you were watching, there were several days where multiple teams were bouncing around at the bottom in the final minutes. It was pretty much sheer luck who got eliminated and who didn't on a lot of days, as I'm sure several other teams will attest. So I guess if you can't accept that as reality, then so be it. Keep discussing who the "better team" is and which alliance screwed over your team.

At the end of the day, Lettuce was at the bottom several days and lucked out not getting eliminated. We were lucky to make it to top 4, just as MM was lucky to not get bounced out on several days. Same can be said about OG, PP, and most of the other teams here.

All in all, well played to the other teams, and good luck going forward!
