Anatidaephobia is one such phobia. A person suffering from this condition feels that somewhere in the world, a duck or a goose is watching him/her (not attacking or touching, simply watching the individual).
Addendum: This is a personal observation as a lurker, but if I were to acertain a reason from my years of lurking the forums, the edits appear to be a way to conserve forum karma by changing the message on the front page of the forum post. This message addendum is, asides from experience, complete speculation and should not be regarded as truth.
I feel that changing the original phrasing of the message from a full 2 paragraphs to a single line cannot result in an effective compression of meaning, especially when the original message held additional context which would explain the context of further messages down the line.
Calling my previous statement an action to, "Bitch and moan," is just the deliberate causing of conflict and detracting from any useful dialogue which could have taken place.
No mental health of any individual should be neglected for any reason.
Either way: mental health good, personal attacks bad.
Yes, M'aol is breaking the servers, but we won't make any progress just by complaining about the throughput of the server.
As a whole, this event has been one of the best in torn by far, and shitting on the devs just feels bad.
Expanding existing resources is a solution, but not a cost effective one for Torn as a whole.
Instead, alternative methods to slow the traffic of requests, and minimize repeated requests would help with dealing with overflows like this.
A one idea would be to split major NPCs into parts/components. IE splitting M'aol up into 5 or more NPCs like, M'aol's Left Tendril, M'aol's Effervescent Heart, Or M'aol's Third Testicle. This would encourage players to split off to check if there is another part of the boss they can attack, and not just sit on one attack page, refreshing until they can get in.
Another would be to implement an attack entry lottery system, wherein a player can submit an intent to attack through the regular page and every 5-10 seconds or so, based on the number of avaliable slots, players are taken from a pool made up of other players who wish to attack. Every time a person gets passed over in the lottery, their weight increases by 1, making them more likely to join in the next 5-10 seconds, and so on and so forth. Energy not being spent until actual entry.
This would give the boss time to do some proper eviceration of the masses, and once again stop refresh hell.
These are only ideas though, and ultimately, whatever the devs do, just as long as we get more events like halloween, I'll be happy.
