My apologies if this has already been suggested before.
Doing the new Forgery crime, I ran out of the certificate seals that I had saved when working on the Burglary crime. I wasn’t happy about the price of this item on the item market and thought I’d just go ahead and burgle the printing works a few times.
Hundreds of nerve later, the printing works hasn’t come up a single time when searching for targets.
This got me thinking — instead of choosing a general category for the target in the Burglary crime, why can’t we just choose the target instead?
I get that Crimes 2.0 has been balanced pretty carefully. I like the mechanic of the rewards from lower-level crimes being useful for higher-level crimes, and I also like the fact that the easier crimes won’t necessarily become irrelevant once you’ve maxed out your skill and seen all of the content.
It seems to me, though, that being able to choose your target for the Burglary crime would be unlikely to unbalance things since the rewards are random anyway. Also, perhaps an occasional “You couldn’t find a suitable target” failure could be added to slow things down a bit.
I think this might help to eliminate the frustration of gathering supplies for the Forgery crime.
I just wanted to say that the M'aol event was some of the most fun I've ever had in Torn and definitely the most interesting thing I've seen in 8+ years of playing this game. I imagine that putting the event together was a huge amount of work and wanted to say thanks. Seems like there are a million complaint threads in the forum and thought that a thread for expressing positivity might be nice too.
So, thanks for the event, staff! I hope to see more like it in the future.
Flying isn't fun. You know what would be fun? Being able to rehab in Torn once a week when stock dividends pay out.
I propose the creation of a new stock that produces a dividend called something like "Home Detox Kit," which would allow you to rehab without leaving Torn.
To those who got the hustling merit, did you do it with the shill and pickpocket or no? I just burned through close to 300 nerve and couldn't get the bet to go over 9x,xxx.

For factions still on OC 1.0 and doing PAs, have any of you noticed that the success rates in November/December seem to be lower than they were previously?
I think that probably the current state of the stock market is Torn's biggest issue because it has a long string of secondary effects.
Since you no longer need to have a human buyer on the other end when you sell stocks, the stock market is printing huge sums of money every day.
This has resulted in Torn admins resorting to desperate measures to take money off of the table in any way possible (nerfing points/traveling, nerfing bazaars, increasing item market fees, creating expensive collectables, etc).
Since stocks are always supposed to go up over a long enough time horizon, the rate of new money entering circulation will continue increasing despite these efforts.
Also, because of increasing stock prices, it's going to continue getting harder for newer players to hit key milestones (like the 10% bank interest bonus, which cost $1.5B when I bought it but is $1.7B today).
Traveling used to be the best/easiest way for newer players to hit those milestones, but points are now nerfed.
I believe that the money sinks will probably not solve the problem and may only serve to frustrate newer players, who will find it more and more difficult to accomplish long-term financial goals in the game. It's more likely that the stock market is in need of major reforms.
The problem is that an MMO has so many mechanisms that create money out of nothing. In Torn, we have crimes, bank interest, stock growth, stock benefits, conversion of real money to donator packs, etc. These are the rewards for playing the game. People want the rewards to be big, or they'll lose interest and stop playing. So the money supply goes up, up, up, and inflation is the inevitable result.
Money sinks like this control the inflation somewhat. It could even be possible that between money sinks and player churn, you can keep the money supply more or less stable over a long enough time horizon.
MMO economies are hugely challenging. Torn's economy is much healthier 20 years in than some other long-lasting games.
ETA: There have been a lot of moves in Torn recently to try and take money off of the table. Reducing the value of points, increasing the number of points needed to do anything, the points-for-collectables scheme, and now the item market fee -- it's clear that major measures are being taken to control inflation.
Does anyone know if there's a particular number of email addresses that consistently gets you replies in the Investment scam? I am also at 700k and still mostly don't get replies.

Of course it is. Day-to-day movements tend to be fairly small, though, so you're not likely to get any huge short-term wins unless you're investing huge money. It can be good to trade stocks that offer dividends, since the dividend gives you a hedge against the stock going down.
I wasn't here for the distribution of the unique properties, but I'm guessing it was done as a measure to drain a massive amount of cash from the economy. Therefore, such a step might happen again one day if it becomes necessary to control inflation. As for the existing properties, I would not support removing them from their owners.
