A useful standard is: Does this person repeatedly make the faction less enjoyable, less stable, or less productive for everyone else?

Hey all,

Over the past several years, I’ve worked with a large number of newer factions and helped them through their first 90 days.

I tend to see the same mistakes repeatedly, so I wanted to share a few lessons that may help other faction leaders.

The biggest mistake I see is allowing toxicity to remain in the faction simply because the player is active or strong.

• Active + friendly = good member
• Less active + friendly = potentially workable
• Active + toxic = bad member
• Inactive + toxic = bad member
• Inactive + friendly = a good person, but possibly not the right fit for an active faction

Activity is valuable, but activity does not excuse toxic behavior. One toxic member can drive away several good members and damage the culture you are trying to build.

The second major mistake is failing to prioritize filling member slots.

All else being equal, 20 active members can accomplish roughly twice as much as 10 active members. More members means more chains, more organized crimes, more participation, more energy, and more opportunities to build a real community.

Finally, be the type of leader you want your members to become.

If you want respectful members, treat people respectfully. If you want active members, stay active. If you want a positive and productive faction, lead with positivity and productivity.

Your members will often reflect the culture that leadership creates.

You will know you are doing it right when your faction is vibin and your enemies are raging.

I suggested in a forum post recently that a casino ban should also prevent the opining of caches/packs. 

Did not get enough traction.
