Basically, I found a bag of cotton balls and bought some melting chocolate, and proceeded to dip these cotton balls in chocolate and allowed them to cool. In order to throw everyone off my scent, I made these little chocolate cotton balls look like small mice (little almond ears and chocolate drizzle tails) and left a half-empty bag of marshmallows next to the platter. I then went into the other room and proceeded to listen to every single member of my family snort at my 'mice' and take a bit bite of chocolate cotton.

The snow bit angrily at my fingertips, leaving the flesh an unpleasant mix of numb and pain and ice. I was okay with that – back in the city, there was some pathetic little punk buy-mugger harassing one of my faction mates. I’d use my dead fingers to beat him bloody and laugh like a little girl while I did so.
It was unpleasant for now, but as I lifted my feet nearly to my chest – swearing so much and colorfully even Duke would have given a standing ovation – I remembered the prize. Beautiful silver cylinders occasionally brushed with green and red. Light enough you could pick them up without straining your back, and so small you could hold them in one hand. They were beautiful and so easy to acquire this time of year.
Energy drinks. I’d have spoken the words out loud if my teeth hadn’t been chattering so badly. They were the holy grail of presents – and not just because Torn didn’t regulate how much caffeine was actually in those things. Those things could sell for millions. And Santa was always giving out one of them. Sometimes more.
I grinned manically to myself as I caught sight of a red jacket, and tried to walk faster. Thoughts of points, Xanax, and maybe even a bit of gambling raced through my mind. If I found a couple more cans just laying around in the snow when I made my way back to town, then maybe I could even pay off that Loan I’d taken from Duke. Dollar signs were just about all that I could see, millions and millions of dollars.
My foot slipped, and I pitched forward with a pig like squeal as the ice unbalanced me. I skidded ahead several feet, throwing my hands out to steady myself. I breathed out a puff of icy air, watching the tiny fog in relief. I hadn’t fallen and broken my head then. That was a relief.
It happened to a lot of players, quite a few of them more experienced then I was.
Still, it looked like Santa had moved out of my line of vision during my little adventure. Resolving to be more careful, I turned to the left to look for the fat charity worker –
- and immediately walked straight into a tree.
I teetered for a moment, before falling sideways into the snow. Blood streamed from my nose and steamed as it hit the snow. In the distance, I could hear the sound of sleigh bells and cursed. That would be the ambulance then. A large wooden sled, with a smell, flea-bitten reindeer and an elf who thought just about any injury could be fixed with a bottle of eggnog.
I tried to stay awake; to keep my eyes open so I could beg the elf to leave me where I was, to explain I had things to do so, but blackness slowly ate at my vision.
I opened my mouth, teeth still chattering slightly, desperate to say my peace, even if nobody was around to hear. “…Santa….you...jerk...I'm coming for you," I whispered, and promptly blacked out.
