With as many PA teams as there are, it might be worth considering an OC that's harder than or at roughly the same difficulty as a PA. Kidnapping a player would require some number of members (5+) for some number of days (5+ days)* and the selection of a target faction. When the OC is initiated, a random member of the target faction (not co or leader) turns into a hostage of the faction who successfully initiated the OC for some length of time (1-5 days or so, possibly a random amount of time between those). The faction whose player was kidnapped CAN pay a ransom to have their player returned early (but is not required to do so - ransom amount can be set by the game, or, more fun/realistic imo, can be negotiated by the (co)leaders of the factions involved).
While having hostage status the player is a member of the faction with(out?) the faction perks**, but is unable to leave, and does not count towards the faction's member limit. They can help the faction if they want (Stockholm syndrome) or not (able to attack and leave members of the faction keeping them hostage, but not hosp because the others prevent that), and possibly even try an escape attempt (uses 60+ nerve and 150E? - (low) odds of success dependent on player's battle stats versus strongest or random player in the faction keeping them hostage?).
This mechanic could be interesting in wars, by making it impossible for a player to get territory time for their 'home' faction and unable to hosp people in the kidnapping faction. On the other hand, because the player does not count towards the faction member limit, a player with Stockholm syndrome could help out their kidnapper, making 'friendly' kidnappings potentially appealing as well.
Because you get a random player you might get lucky and get a faction's strongest player, or unlucky and get their weakest member, or anything in between. Because players vary in which factions they are sympathetic to it's not guaranteed whether a player will fight the kidnapping faction or develop Stockholm syndrome and help them. Factions who use this to try to obtain a ransom may or may not get as much money as they hope. This OC does not earn a faction respect nor does it pay money other than the potential ransom.
After the hostage time period is up or a ransom is paid the kidnapped player is returned to their home faction (no 'recruit' period), unless the player opts to stay in the faction that kidnapped them (no 'recruit' period either, does require the faction to have space available).
*I really don't have strong opinions on the numbers for these other than the number of players and number of days shouldn't be too low. Possibly make the team members unavailable to put in a new OC until after the hostage has been returned to their original faction. **Up to the faction (co)leader perhaps? They could choose permissions for hostages, and could also have their vault robbed if they give their hostage vault access.
I’m pretty sure that the vast majority of those downvotes are for two reasons:
Using 2369 words (not even including the screenshots)
Being a snowflake
Sure, some people might have downvoted it because they’re trans- or homophobes… but given reasons 1 & 2, it’s a terrible post to use to try to prove the presence of rampant trans- and homophobia.
I didn’t want 30 pages of people just posting to get stuff, so the whole point was to make the amount so small as to be meaningless - to just have a little fun for people who are excited to get an Afro comb or a sextant or who just want a random thing to remember me by. It’s not like I put “thread dividends” in the title.
On my phone I use dark mode, on the laptop light mode. Most of the time I play on my phone anyway, but typing up a bunch (including people messaging me) just seemed smarter on laptop.
Edit: My director finally found a replacement, woohoo! Original: "Good riddance" - You can help me quit faster by replacing me in my job - contact my director. He's looking for a brown-nosing reader, but would probably be happy with a straight-up replacement for me too: Intelligence 265,181 Endurance 205,802, 10/10 EE.
"Can I haz ur stuff?" - I've already contacted the people I'm giving my stuff to, but since I'm sticking around until my company director has a replacement, but, for the sake of encouraging reading comprehension, maybe I'll send some of the little items, think $100k or less, to people who post interesting/good new year's resolutions for 2026.
"But why???" - Just kind of burnt out on the game (despite loving my faction), and I seem to be incapable of spending less time on it. I'm also trying to figure out what I'm going to do next career-wise IRL (shockingly, homeschooling my kids has an expiration date), so that should take up some time.
Some numbers, just to later compare to if I ever come back:
93 friends, 16 enemies (I hear these numbers can really change if you're inactive long-time, though I don't think anyone will add me as a leveling target).
HoF (I even put my laptop in dark mode for y'all; you're welcome):
Oh, and Happy New Year, y'all! (It's still Dec 31 here)
I’d contemplated making it $100m, but I just don’t like gambling on things that are out of my control. If I were more of a gambler I would’ve gone higher, since you vs literally anybody else seemed like a pretty high chance of me winning (same for other longtime P&L folks - if they haven’t been fedded yet, any single one vs everyone else seems like a nobrainer).
Probably literally nothing, given how many pictures I make. Like I replied to Oman, a lot of people clearly don’t have common sense and think any use is harassment though, and with the abetting stuff, that could get really wild. Anyone is vulnerable to abetting charges.
Thank you for your reply - that’s all I was asking for - whether common sense applies or whether there’s an outright ban on using pfps (and you go down for abetting if you know about such a use). It wasn’t about defending whatever these fedded people did, just about clarity about the rules (you’d think both users and staff would like everyone to be clear on those).
It is without consent if you’re posting it on your faction page, some forum thread, Discord, whatever. And my original question was because people were saying that any use automatically is harassment, and people knowing about it should be fedded for abetting. I figured it would be a good idea to hash this out before someone ends up in fed, especially for abetting, which still feels like a really ill-defined category to me.
This is why toleration matters so much (I’m guessing that has to be the main issue). He does have 1k more Xanax than you, but less Xanax than me. You’re approaching the steep part of the rehab cost curve:
Right; I didn’t say that she asked for it. But, for example, is it allowed to take a person’s pfp to create a collage to surprise them with for their 1000th day in faction without asking for consent first (wouldn’t be much of a surprise if you did), and would anybody aware of doing so be guilty of abetting?
I agree that if that player gets upset and asks for it to be taken down from wherever (forum post, faction page, etc) it should be taken down. I just disagree with the people claiming that literally any use of someone else’s pfp automatically is harassment.
Of course, if the rule is you can’t do that without asking for consent first, that’s cool too, but then the written rules need to be updated to make that clear, imo.
Like I said, I haven’t seen the images in question, and it’s entirely possible they’re well over the line. My question was whether any use of someone else’s pfps automatically counted as harassment, and whether anything to do with any of that automatically counts as abetting.
AI-ifying someone’s pics isn’t guaranteed to cause their distress. Depending on what you’re doing, it’s reasonably foreseeable it will (if you’re making them look bad or whatever), that’s why I asked if it’s automatically considered a no-no (especially at the level of abetting).
Is AI-ifying someone else’s profile pics automatically harassment, or do they need to be bad in some way (or continuing after being asked to stop, etc)? Depending on whatever the pics were, they might clearly have been harassment, or not… I thought the abetting rule was created more for cheating than for publicly visible profile images.
From this thread. He was defending Epstein etc. Which also won me my $10M bet with AgntOrngRuffy as to who would be (forum) banned first - took longer than I expected.
This. I’ve had someone comment on my name being “Not Sure” (it’s from a movie). My location was kind of a pun wrt where I’m from. And yes, I changed my age each year, though purposefully not on the exact date. Now I won’t ever get to the answer to life, the universe, and everything (and I was so close).
Putting that stuff in the profile signature just seems odd to me - too intentional. Giving somewhat silly/partially true answers to standard questions is different than purposefully putting that same stuff in a blank space.
Maybe the FBI just got lucky. Maybe they’d planned on just using it as a stepping stone to something real. Like, if you want to infiltrate some known organization you’d need to first go hang out with the type of people in that kind of organization, so people in the real org will trust you’re the right kind of person to let into their org.
