Summary/TLDR

Fibonacci’s founder and former owner RX8 gambled away $3b of faction money, then stole another $6b.

Background: Fibonacci 1.0

For all OG Fibonacci members, RX8 was the singular dude in charge. In the first incarnation of Fibonacci, we grew from scratch to 1M respect in less than a year, before eventually merging with PT. Back then was RX8’s peak in Torn, always the top chainer and leading the reviver HOF. Judging from his friend count it seems he’s made an impression on quite a few people over the years, too.

After a bit of differences in leadership, RX8 decided to part ways from PT eventually and start another faction, again from scratch. Trusting in him, the rest of us decided to follow him to Fibonacci 2.0.

Fibonacci 2.0 + Gambling

Perhaps he was expecting to easily grow another 1M respect faction. But growth was definitely slower in Fibonacci 2.0. At this point, just after setting up the new Fibonacci, RX8 semi-retired but stayed as Leader. So the faction was left to its own devices. Since August 2021, Imabossman and I took charge in coordinating chains and recruiting. Over the next year and a half, RX8 began to log in less and less, from once a day to often not logging in for a whole week. Finally in December 2022, RX8 stepped down from Leader.

Since then, our faction’s growth has exploded. Thanks to chains and ranked warring, we grew from 400k respect to 890k, finished our first 10k chain, and hit Gold division. With this growth, our faction became richer as well. Then RX8 began borrowing from the faction vault to play poker.

He began conservatively, making sure to always pay back the borrowed amount immediately. Whenever he ended on a loss, RX8 had stocks to sell to even out his balance. Gradually however, it seems he began to run out of collateral to offset his losses. Soon enough, he started to have a consistent negative $2-3b on his faction balance. At the time, he brushed it off by saying that he had a full bank to cash in.

The Theft

The actual theft occurred after I confronted RX8 to pay back his $3b debt for the 5th time. RX8 then decided that the entire vault was his personal poker stash.

23:30:34 - 04/09/23 RX8 was given $6,126,376,515 by RX8.

In the end, I was given an ultimatum: to hand the faction over, or he’s keeping the money. In addition, as owner of our discord server he also proceeded to demote and kick various members, pros, and council before eventually deleting it entirely.

A few points to say here.

1. That money isn’t his to take, simple as that.
2. Fibonacci cannot thrive with a leader that treats their members in this manner.
3. Fibonacci isn’t his, and hasn’t been for a while now. That much is obvious to the 90+ members who have been growing the faction over the last year, entirely without his involvement.

Personal Note

Looking back on it, I should have turned off his banking access sooner. In the past, he would always pay off his debts, and I thought that he would always have the capability to pay back what he owed. I kept all his perms out of respect for him being the founder and leader for 7 years. I never would have expected the dude I followed almost all of my torn life to steal from his own members.

Recovery: Fibonacci 3.0?

We’ve thankfully 100% restored our members’ balances within six hours of the theft. Huge shoutout to Fibonacci council for taking billions from their personal funds, NO HESITATION, to make sure that our members were taken care of.

However, that leaves us with the question of where the faction moves forward from here. Understandably, our members might be a bit more wary to trust us with their money. Furthermore, it’s a bit awkward to continue the “Fibonacci” name, which is essentially RX8’s legacy.

Perhaps a rename and rebrand is in order?
