so i was collecting bounties for a mission, right? there's a book available for 2 more days and i won't be able to afford it, but it's worth the try. anyway suddenly a message pops up from the dude i'd just hosped, who is apparently one of (all of) three things; 1) sensitive 2) a pansy 3) a jackass BECAUSE of the contents of said message, censored because i love and appreciate each one of you, i'm sure
i, of course, immediately complained to everyone in my immediate vicinity (and complained over text to several who weren't), then proceeded to put a couple more bounties on the poor loser, since he appreciates them so much (i wouldnt suggest claiming them, unless you've already seen endgame or don't care). lo and behold, the response was near instant! or lack of response, that is.
anyway, i figured that since these forums are always full of whiners now was my chance! that's all.
P.S.- if anyone gets offended or bored or whatever and decides to bounty me, spare no charge! i'm sure i can find someone who will appreciate the extra change:)
the little button thing at the top of the screen that you can click to see the time/date/server doesn't work on my iOS app or in my mobile browser. i'm also fairly sure it used to be the letter 'i' in a circle, but the dot is missing.
two other people in my faction said they were having the same problem, one of them said that when they hit it repeatedly it came up but i haven't been able to do that.
Join a faction. Plenty pay out for OCs and revive factions compensate you for reviving during contracts - they might have a skill requirement, tho. Maybe work on increasing that.
Seemingly every time I go to sell something recently it's dropped significantly in price. Generally, this is because it used to only be available in certain ways/areas and has since been added as, for example, a crimes 2.0 outcome.
Fruitcake is probably the most egregious example. Used to go for $200-500k+ whenever you needed one for that Duke mission, now they're at Bits 'n Bobs for $30 a pop.
Since the 'quality' indicator was added to weapon and armor item descriptions, higher quality pieces are often priced at multiple times the market rate. This is because they are a superior product and therefore worth more, not because the seller is price gouging or otherwise scamming.
The "market value" varies over time, sometimes greatly. There are items that have been in my bazaar for years, and likely will be for years to come, because they have gone down in price since I posted them. Sellers also should not be penalized for the whims of the market.
There are items for which there isn't enough demand for the "market value" to mean much. Collectables come to mind. Sellers shouldn't be penalized for not being willing to part with an object in limited circulation for as little as the next guy over.
And of course, as others have said, enforcement. Staff have better shit to do. Devs changed game mechanics themselves to make it so you have to actively choose to ignore (or be too stupid to notice) "price gouging". At this point, if something is too expensive, boo hoo. Go tell your factionmates about it - they're much less likely to bounty you for whining than the people in GD.
This can be the merit y'all give out to people who complain about not getting Time Traveller every time servers go down temporarily. Call it, "Like I Was Here Yesterday".
This. Specifically, burgle industrial targets - every single one of them has arson material as potential loot, much of it being fuel. If you want O2, the Dentist's Office can net you up to 4 per burgle. You can get most of the required planted evidence by burgling, too. The only money I've spent on arson is the ~50k I spent on gasoline at Bits n Bobs just starting out.

when i first started, -FC- busted me out of jail then offered me a mansion to rent for 100 days, no cost. it really helped to not have to worry about properties for that first couple months, and by the end i was able to buy one of my own. i haven't rented anything since, and me and my wife now live in a PI of our own. that free mansion early on helped keep me invested in the game and influenced my gameplay to a certain extent.
i never interacted with -FC- beyond that, but i'll probably never take him off my friends list. i also like to pay it forward by renting out any of my better properties to relatively new players- some have stuck around, but usually after the 100 days are up they've either gone long inactive or have enough cash to buy something of their own or rent a PI. i hope that they pay it forward as well.
that being said, if there's any new players reading this from a shack, hit me up and i'll see if i can hook you up with a good property. at the time of writing i have a ranch and a mansion available, both fully upgraded. i'll rent them to you 100 days, no cost, just need you to mail me xD

hey, i offered to rent out my mansion to you for 100 days, no strings attached. when i was just getting started, an established player did the same for me and i don't know where i'd be or even if i'd still be playing without it, so i like to return the favor :)
if you stick it out, you should be able to get a mansion of your own or better by the time your lease is up, or be well off enough to start renting PIs.
as for making money, i don't do runs, so i mostly make money from crimes, mugging, and some minor dabbling in stocks and flipping items. now that i have a PI, i use my energy mostly for missions (another good money maker) and training, but i have enough money for the city bank to bring in a steady profit. i highly recommend stuffing as much money as you know you won't spend in the bank, just to keep it off your hands and gathering interest. even once you get a vault, unless you have big purchases planned, it does more for you in the bank than your vault.
bored at school, watched over a friend's shoulder while he did search for cash crimes. was vaguely interested, noted the url, made my account later that day, got hooked. got some friends hooked.
original friend played for ~4 days, after that he only got on 2 or 3 more times when i harassed him about it. now he lives across the country and takes his turn in battleship twice a year tops, and i have a video game addiction. not sure who got the better end of the deal, to be honest.
there wasn't an option for "i like the idea but can see how others might not" so i chose mixed feelings. i think it's good just as a informational thing, and it isn't even particularly intrusive- you use public knowledge and what people can tell you. but since it in a way involves people's health and people have varying ideas of what constitutes a breach in privacy, i can see why people are riled up. all around i think it was a good idea, keep up the work. R+
i'll tell you what, the day i log on to find that my networth has gone down a chunk and my stats have lost significant progress because of a restore i'll harass staff for the merit.... until then as far as i'm concerned people who have the merit are welcome to it and i'm better off without. god knows i spend too much time on this game to lose progress.
