Edit: TL:DR is apparently needed because it seems a lot of people are reading this as a complaint about the bounties rather than a question on the culpability of players who work for bounty-placing services, so here it is:
Random player: *places $3m worth of bounties on me to make $500k*
Me: *You've arrested player for $X"

Larrystooge's bounty depot", which to his credit, even being on the receiving end seems to be run very efficiently, and for anyone looking to place a shit ton of bounties, I couldn't recommend it any higher. He delivers, not doubt about it, and this is not meant to be a negative hit at him.
But after having nearly 200 bounties placed on me, at least 80% of those bounties were not done anonymously. so I decided to add those names to my enemy list, and all but one or two were people that I am able to defeat, so I started to attack them, and as expected, some of them messaged be to tell me that they know I'm attacking them in retaliation for those bounties, and I explained why I was attacking them, but I've got two types of responses:
The first:
REDACTED: Hello. I am assuming this is in retaliation of the bounties. I was asked by bounty depot to place them. I have no clue who you made mad to put that amount of bounties on you.
Patient: and you accepted, despite not knowing the circumstances
REDACTED: Yes. I was just letting you know where they came from is all.
Patient: I already know where they came from, but you helped them come :p
REDACTED: Fair enough
This person understood that he took a hostile action against me, and that is the reason for me attacking him, and he accepts that he may receive retaliation in kind. Sure, someone else paid someone else to pay him to take that action, but ultimately he's one that decided it was worth it and placed the bounties. He owned it, and I have the utmost respect for him, for whatever that's worth.
But on the other side of the coin, some of Larry's stooges have tried to absolve themselves of responsibility for placing the bounties, just because it wasn't
them placing the bounties, they were just placing bounties for Larry that someone else paid Larry to place:
Complicated: I don't recall anon you
Patient: You don't recall anon me?
Patient: sorry I don't understand
Complicated: I don't recall anonymously bountied you
Patient: ohh no I mean if you don't want to get it back then use the anon bounties
Complicated: I mean, it's pretty obvious you're targeted by someone
Patient: Yea but the fact is you decided it was worth the money to put the bounties on me to assist them
Complicated: Just puzzled me that, a person of your caliber would like vent on others instead of finding the culprit
Complicated: I don't know who it is
Complicated: Like I said, someone paid larrystooge
Complicated: and larrystooge paid us for the slots
Patient: Is placing a bounty on someone not a hostile act?
Complicated: I mean, if you want to take that personally, go ahead
Complicated: Didn't expect to find a child with over 1100 days old
Complicated: Do what you please, I only intended to point you a direction
Patient: No, you intended to make money by taking a hostile action against me
Patient: own it
Complicated: Lol, you aren't the President of the United States
Complicated: Knock it off lmao
Patient: I'm not
Patient: but it wasn't larry that didn't spring for the anonymous fee :p
Complicated: Let's be real, you'll get a reveal regardless :^)
Patient: I wouldn't to be honest
Patient: But you put 10 bounties on me, and at a value that's pretty much guaranteed to be claimed
Complicated: Again, the whole point of this conversation isn't about telling you to stop me
Complicated: I'm just telling you where to find your answers
Patient: No I know where the bounties came from
Complicated: This is the 3rd time I've repeated this, do whatever you like to me, but if you want answers talk to larry
Patient: but you're helping them in their attack against me
Patient: I don't need answers
Complicated: I don't know why you kept circling to a point that wasn't made
Patient: Well, you put bounties on me, so eh deal with that
Patient: Let's end this circling :p
Patient: You came to me dude
Patient: the only one circling is you
Patient: Maybe next time think about who you're putting bounties on or spring for the anon fee
Patient: just my advice
Complicated: Seems like you still don't really get it with that thick skull of yours, but that's okay
Complicated: Stay healthy
This stooge seems to think that just because he didn't know where the money was coming from that he's not actively responsible for the attacks that come at me because of his bounties, but ultimately he decided that the money he would receive was worth the risk that someone would retaliate in response? Did he really think that just because he was told to place the bounties that he wouldn't have to deal with the fallout of placing them?
The way I see it, placing 10 bounties on me, especially ones with a high enough value that they're virtually guaranteed to be claimed, is equivalent to them hosping me repeatedly themself, and regardless of the reason, if someone is willing to do that to me, I would retaliate in kind if I'm able.
This isn't meant to disparage Larry's service, which I admit is incredibly effective, but to find out whether people think retaliating against the (mostly) younger players who enable these types of services should be absolved of responsibility just because they were only following orders.
