What's a ban REALLY for? · · 22 likes

Welcome to my Christmas, or what I like to call 'how one companies buggy software justifies ToS abuse', featuring Stretch, Trainee and unnamed staff which probably will like to remain anonymous after this, and my friends in my company. When me and my friends have played for long enough to know what good prevention methods are, it's quite heartening to know that staff try their best to keep your peace of mind by assuming your guilt without evidence, being condescending and abusing their ToS as and when they like without any operational transparency - something you'll see increasingly throughout this post.

The opener.

So here we are, making individual cases for you to writhe at.

From the above you can see the inimical effort the staff engage with after having debunked their sophisticated, error-free system that is in-place to track offenders that wish only to exploit the game, clearly. Very professional. Not only do they like to repeat something that no longer holds any weight or meaning, they quite clearly ignore the anomaly and pretend that it wasn't even said, going straight back to calling blasphemy and acting with irreverence.

But wait, there's more.

So after stating that I, myself and a friend, have the same attributes to my friends that were banned, proving correlation does not imply causation they again choose to ignore this as evidence because why wouldn't they, if they didn't they wouldn't have any grounds to keep the bans in place. So not only was an account that wasn't involved when the ban occurred online, they also hadn't even been online for upwards of 18 hours prior.

So did this only happen to my friends, is this an isolated incident?

No.

It should, by this point, be relatively evident that Torn's staff don't have much faith in their system themselves - with an increasing number of people being erroneously and, seemingly randomly, banned this past week for reasons that aren't very clear, it's hardly surprising that they're losing faith. However, that this dwindling faith is still leading them to wantonly suspend and ban accounts is increasingly concerning. Requests for more operational transparency have been met with condescension and evident frustration and thus I am sharing my concerns with a larger audience in the hopes that Torn might break their radio silence on a number of questionable cases and to pose a simple question: When can we expect Torn to be more transparent with their 'judicial' system?

I also believe it is in your best interest, the players of this game, not to buy any services or otherwise fund this game when a system that attempts to protect your best interests is clearly broken while the staff do nothing other than dismiss hard facts as a lie. This can happen to any of you and God help you if you too are innocent.

But it's not me that's made the mistake, from what I can tell by my account remaining unbanned
