Background: This may be hard for you all to believe because I have such a sterling personality but even I have made a few enemies during my first few months in Torn. I was told I shouldn't waste money on petty rivalries and success was the best revenge. I listened to these people and over the next few months I forgot all about them as I continued my meteoric rise to become the mediocre player you see today.

I didn't read this thread yet but I'm going to try to predict what happened:

It is not standardized over time, and if it was, language changes and so that would have to be compensated for along with a few other things. i think it has changed...
Take 2 tests, one based on the standards a long time ago. and then go take the test today. See if your scores are identical.
I am going to use some algebra to try to explain this. Think of it as Y = MX+ B. An IQ test is standardized so it will always use the same formula to produce the outcome (MX+B). However, just because it is standardized doesn't mean it is static. If you change the input for M, X or B the results for Y change. It's the same concept here. The standardization process (100 is average) is always the same but based on the data they get the score required to get to 100 changes.

Maybe its linear... but i doubt it, My bet is a developing test meets spike caused by emergence of tech, games and more education systems.... if that's the case, then biologically speaking our capacity for intelligence could be declining... even if that test says our intellectual ability currently seems to be increasing.
This has a lot of problems with it. How would you measure one's biological intelligence? From there, how would you be able to tell one's capacity for intelligence? You would need to figure this out then track it AND uncover it's declining.
So after looking into it, IQ is a measurement of deviation from the average score taken from limited sets of data from the same test, similar age groups.
I still think there is room for the possibility of drifting being caused by factors other than our genetically based potential for intelligence increasing. I'll continue reading. Good job doing research! You are absolutely correct. There is, in my opinion, a strong possibility that the Flynn Effect is not an improvement in our genetic makeup. It's just circumstances allowing us to improve our cognitive function.

Genetic changes were seen as not important.' Correct! It is very unlikely that our genetic makeup changed enough to make our intelligence jump 3 points per decade.
So they think the flynn effect does not show an increase in the intelligence as a species, genetically speaking... so in their opinions that could be going up or down with the flynn effect still observable... That's all i think is the case. Apologies if my words weren't as apt as theirs. I admit i did have a few assumptions about IQ calculation methods wrong.
I agree. However, I don't see why we need to modify this. The Flynn Effect shows we have been becoming more intelligent as a species. I don't necessarily see why improving IQ through superior genetics is wholly different than improving intelligence through nutrition, exercise, and education.
And so if that is the case... there is the possibility that lost intelligence due to 'genetic degradation' could catch up with and overtake the gains we get from the other factors currently at play. This is questionable territory. You need to prove that there is lost intelligence first and then you need to be able to tie it to genetic degradation. This is questionable because no one can really do this in an authoritative way.
In the same way tech will no doubt at some point add a lot more improvements than it already has. I still think there is value in respect and close consideration of our species average gene pool... I think its state dictates a large part of our species future.... sooo many children.. its worth being super careful about tests that might convince the word we are all getting smarter when we aren't.

The questions and methods for calculating IQ have evolved and changed, true or false. No. The method is the same. It's standardized.
An intelligent man could take the test now and take one from 10 years ago and would likely get different scores. For some it would be an improvement, for others a loss... What?
The initial IQ tests didn't encompass nearly as much as the new versions do.. Is it not possible the Flynn effect is somewhat caused by the fact that the test itself is still evolving. I mean resources of the people and increased education is no doubt playing a part too... which would all potentially look like our 'intelligence' is rising, when our genetic capacity for intelligence was decreasing. Do some research.
Believe what you like, But for me, the flynn effect is not enough evidence for me to be comfortable with the matter. As for 'making stuff up' you are getting my opinion based on what i've seen. The threshold changes for the IQ score. Its not standardized. IQ tests are standardized to an average IQ of 100 and an average deviation of 15
Also, typically only the really smart people choose to take the comprehensive tests. This isn't true. Cognitive stratification is very common/important to do. You may not take an IQ test but it is reasonable to think most people in developed countries have taken a test designed to test something similar to IQ.
And with the emergence of the internet and modern technology, we'd expect a leap due to the new ability to learn so much in so many ways. This is true but I think people expect a linear jump. We do become more productive with new technology but initially, we usually become less productive as it takes time to build up the skills and infrastructure necessary to use it effectively. I can find some sources for this if you'd like.

Brady is one of the greatest players to ever play and half the records you listed are due to him playing more games than everyone else and that he played them while being an old man....also, you do realize that Rice owns every significant wide receive record by a country mile, right?
I don't know how this is debatable. I consider the criteria for judging a football player how good they were at their position compared to their peers. Rice is head and shoulders better than Brady in this criteria. A quarterback is a lot more valuable than wideouts and Rice is still ahead of Brady in most all-time lists.
