I've got to say, seeing some of the reactions to this thread treating it as an act of aggression is a little strange.
The one responsible for hiring the mercs and spending a substantial amount of money to have TDT members hit is literally the one being singled out here.
If you're a faction currently housing him and don't want to find yourself on the receiving end of a DB, the solution seems fairly straightforward: don't house him as a full member.

Nobody is being forced into anything here. TDT has made its position pretty clear, and the choice of whether that's worth the risk ultimately sits with the faction housing him. Considering the amount of money that was apparently spent on mercs in the first place, I'm not sure why this particular consequence is being treated as some completely unexpected escalation lol

Possible bug, related to being a mission target · · 0 likes

I'm currently experiencing a strange pattern where am on and off a Duke target. To my knowledge to become a mission target, you'd need to be in an outstanding loan with the NPC, and I have 0 interaction with it.

The other reason would be long term inactivity, which I don't fit the criteria either.

So, I contacted one of the staff to get informed a bit and after hitting a wall there too, I am making a bug report about it, coincidently as per their advice too.

Banning of third party casinos ·

Completely agreed with the proposed ban.
Beyond the clear lack of transparency and backend verification, these third-party casinos create severe compliance, legal, and player-safety issues that Torn shouldn't be exposed to.

A real-life example of why this is necessary is the CS:GO skin gambling scandal (and similar third-party gambling ecosystems around games like Runescape).

Unregulated external sites popped up using game APIs and virtual items as currency. Because they operated outside official game controls, they bypassed age verification, exploited player addictions, lacked proven fairness, and eventually led to massive legal liability, cease-and-desist notices, and regulatory scrutiny for the developers.

Allowing third-party sites to take buy-ins and run unverified gambling mechanics using Torn's ecosystem creates the exact same risk.

Banning the promotion and use of these sites protects both players and the long-term compliance of the game itself.

I don't think standard forum staff members are considered official employees who fall under this kind of legislative supervision.

While the ICO might classify online handles as identifiers under the Data Protection Act 2018, quoting UK statutory law on a gaming forum is a massive stretch. This isn't a state legal battle; it’s an issue of basic staff ethics and community trust. [1, 2]

The nature of one's conversation with staff is, for the most part, expected to be confidential, as long as it pertains to a private dispute between 2 players. That is just common sense based on the years I've been around. The only time they escalate an issue and bring others into the mix is usually when a lot more than two players are involved, which falls under standard community management rules.

If a staff member is actually leaking your private PMs to another regular player over a personal dispute, that's a different story entirely. In that case, I'd say a report first and foremost is due and then obviously don't trust that staff member anymore. However, most of the Torn staff follow a pretty strict method for doing things and are generally lenient, at least in their capacity for it. Even if they rely on cold logic, they try their best, and no one's perfect. :p

An interesting topic all in all, got me to write something about it. laughing

Summary of my first month in Torn - Damn what a rollercoaster ·

De si, jarane! Pozdrav iz Makedonije! Drago mi je da te igra dobro drzi. Al’ pazi, da ne zavrsis da ti poker bude jedina religija!

(First and last time I’ll drop Bosnian here, forum rules say English only, so back to proper language after this.)

Does Torn need an Ombudsman? ·

This GD thread will ultimately remain just that, a GD thread. Staff, including the owner/s, are unlikely to give much weight to the discussions here beyond using it as a reference point to collect controversial information that might be relevant in the future. While the concept behind the thread is valid, it overlooks the conclusions that Torns community has already reached.

In general, I believe there is little difference between what players are permitted to express and how they behave, compared to the level of tolerance shown by staff and moderators.

I will withhold my personal opinion on the forum, as I recognize that it is unlikely to change anything at this stage. However, it is important to note that both staff and players are fully aware of the nature of some sub-forums. What we see here is a form of testing boundaries to gauge how much tolerance each side has for the other. When that tolerance is exceeded, threads like this inevitably arise.

I have respect for bogie, who consistently puts in a genuine effort to engage with the community. He often shares more than necessary in the interest of transparency, though his efforts are seldom appreciated. This is why moderators in most games, including those I have been involved with, tend to remain silent for the most part and only step in with a neutral perspective when an issue arises that affects the entire community.

TL;DR
Staff aren’t abusing power, but players test boundaries constantly. True neutrality may be impossible within the community itself.

In Loving Memory of Catasstrophic · · 2 likes

Never had the pleasure of meeting him, but as a fellow cat enthusiast, I'm sure we'd have gotten along nice, staring at each other all day long.

My condolences to his loved ones and family and may he rest in peace.

TornW3B/weav3r.dev compromised AGAIN? · · 1 like

It’s not going to deter me.
The site has been invaluable, and being able to view other players’ bazaars at fairer prices has been awesome.
If all it takes is swapping keys, that’s a small price to pay.
On a more serious note, it sucks this keeps happening, but I’m glad you’re on top of it and tackling each attempt with a fresh approach.

Just another fellow torn player that never had the chance to speak to him but passing by to pay respects, nonetheless.
🌼Rest in peace🌼.

Sexism on torn, a big issue? ·

Sexist? I didn't see any sexist remarks in that discussion at least when you put it in context and comparison of legit sexist remarks. Neither was he a troll for that matter. The guy was clearly venting in all directions, however.

I f****d up · · 2 likes

He's just yanking your pizzle (been playing too much KCD2 as of late sigh)

The location for that self-reflection and apology is correct, at least when compared and based on the standards of some other posts I've seen be posted here, but it does indeed seem personal to the point where some other location would have been better appropriate to post that in.

I don't know you, but you seem like a dude that's self-conscious and if that's the case learn from the experience and move on.

DO U ARE HAVE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ·

Questions 1, 3, and 5 lack an opt-out option for actions some quiz-takers don’t even want to engage in. I chose the answers that felt closest under the circumstances.

Fun quiz otherwise.

From ‘biiiiiitch’ to ‘TRUE DIPLOMAT’! that’s what I call character development.

As much as I want to further add to the subject, I'll just suffice it with shit happens. The guy was booted about the same time that he was fedded.

A way too long feud · · 2 likes

Torn’s got the full human spectrum on tap, some here are strategic masterminds, some are drama connoisseurs, and some just seem to have wandered in from a behavioral psychology case study. Honestly, watching people spin decade-old grudges into modern-day opera makes me wonder if we’re playing a game or attending group therapy with guns.

Still, nothing quite like logging in for crimes and accidentally catching a dissertation on unresolved trauma. Peak Torn, really.

You’ve carried this long enough. The real strength is in moving on.
