- much better bonuses for the eggs - bonuses available whenever, not at pickup - eggs do not expire - eggs biggerer, easier to see
Now, to the cons
What's the point in hunting eggs?
[background color=var(--bbc-body-bg-color)]“a similar amount of eggs will spawn for all players, rendering the competition element pointless. Your activity levels will not change how many eggs spawn on your account; you simply need to log in during the event in order to receive eggs.” [/background]
In the past, folks were driven by the competition element and the tokens. I would spend far too many hours scrolling page after page trying to keep in that top 90% to get the 10 token payout. It was obsessive, it took hours of activity and kept me glued to Torn.
Now, I just don't see the value of scrolling page after page - "Ok Greyhame, but why?"
Since the egg spawning is relatively the same for all and not based on activity, the eggs will spawn for me the same as an aggressively active hunter. They also won't expire, so they are always available to be found at some point.
If they can spawn anywhere, what's the point in hunting as I am likely to never find them or find them very rarely - especially if this spawn can happen on some random inactive player's page.
If they spawn only on pages I visit with some frequency, then they'll show up without me spending the time hunting for them. So again, no point in investing the time egg hunting.
There has to be some magical sweet spot of spawning to make hunting have some value (still diminished from years prior), and while that's possible, as a Torn pessimist, forgive me that I don't expect this beautiful balance of page spawning. (Although it would have to be something like this to still make actively looking for the eggs have any point whatsoever)
Quality of life wise, this is great! I don't have to deal with the frustration of hours upon hours of searching. I had mixed feelings about the event before, it was compulsive in a way that I almost hated, but there was a certain joy to the hunt. I do have friends, however, who feel that the entire event has lost the spark it once had for them. Now, I can't think of a reason to actively search. Torn is about patience, and if the egg spawns, it stays forever (albeit only visible and acquirable during the event.) And everyone gets about the same spawn rate... so again... there's no reason to look for them like in years past. I can just wait and they'll fall in my lap eventually. It could take a few years, but that's Torn.
Obviously, I'll keep actively looking at the pages I visit, I just won't be going out of my way to hit the staff page, rules page, newspaper, etc. 300 times a day.
If there's something I'm missing, or the logic is flawed, call my ass out. Generally, all the pros are fantastic, but the removal of a competition element in conjunction with the new mechanics also removes the point in hunting like we once did. I would think you'd want to increase activity levels with events for greater engagement, but this change seems to have the opposite effect. Maybe wait until the last day and look around for all the spawns that occurred during the event, but otherwise - Why hunt for eggs?
tl;dr -lots of great changes to eggs as a whole that we like -without a competition element, tokens, or egg expiration, why bother spending hours hunting - they'll show up eventually from regular play -kind of kills the spirit of the event as a whole.
P.S. for the love of f**k DO NOT reinstate expiration of eggs. That would be the worst possible solution to this.
