As-salamu alaykum.

I was hoping that at least someone intending to read the whole thread would see what misconceptions people can have about Islam, and how the practice of some so-called Islamic states does not adhere to Islamic teachings. Perhaps there is at least one open minded person who will be willing to sit down and try to understand Islam as a religion, and not as an excuse for terrorist states claiming to bring justice, and instead bringing suffering to innocent people.

It saddens me, however, that the actual question has been neglected in order to propagate hatred against Islam and Muslims with such fervor that it seems that it's not possible to refute false claims by proof and logic, as that only brings more hatred and insults upon us. We can not open eyes and hearts that are sealed shut.

May Allah s.w.t. grant everyone peace.

Peace be upon you. I apologize in advance for the long response I am about to give.

My answer is: absolutely not.

Keep in mind that reading only the Holy Quran without the Tafsir can often confuse a person and make them misinterpret Islam. That said, parts of what you have quoted has an unknown source. First part (the one after quoting Surat Muhammad), doesn't even have one. The second one you have quoted as Tafsir, but it looks like a hadith, and it just might be ta'if or even mardud (disputed or even rejected) since you haven't said which hadith it is. Still, you have quoted it as it was sahih (accurately preserved and transmitted).

Also, please keep in mind that following the hadiths is not the same as following the rules of the Holy Qur'an, and that not all hadiths are of equal worth, and thus not all of them should be followed. The Holy Qur'an is from Allah s.w.t., and the hadiths are from men.

The Tafsir I will be using to explain some parts of the Holy Qur'an is Tafsir ibn Kathir, which is a part of the copy of Holy Qur'an I own.

It is noticeable that you have ripped out parts of Ayahs out of context, It is often said that Qu'ran is a whole, from beginning to end, which would mean that all of its parts are in correlation, and mentioning only one or two words without the rest can bring confusion into this discussion. When quoting surat Al-Anfal, you have left out a big part. It says:

8:12

[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."

It refers to a battle in which pagans came with an army of 1000 to Medinah to defeat Muslims, and Allah s.w.t.. gave Muhammad s.a.w.s. and his men strength to defeat them. Obviously, this does not advocate aggression, but reminds Muslims that Allah s.w.t. aided them in battle and protected them, as he is Merciful and Beneficient.

Next Ayah (8:13) says:
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

Meaning that Allah s.w.t. is the one who punishes the sin of not believing in him and opposing him, not the Muslims. They can only attack in case they have broken a contract or plotted against Muslims, as is said in surah At-Tawbah:

9:12

And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease.

9:13

Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to expel the Messenger, and they had begun [the attack upon] you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are [truly] believers.

In other words, Muslims are told that they have the right to defend and protect themselves in case they are in danger, not to behead prisoners. The word prisoners was not even mentioned.

At some point the disbelievers were even offered protection:

9:2
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers.

9:6

And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah . Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.

When it comes to sex slavery, I have to say right away: rape and sexual violence are forbidden in Islam. They are haram and what ISIS is doing is haram (bad and forbidden). What you have mentioned is sleeping with a female slave and a discussion on coitus interruptus, but that (sex without marriage with a slave) is only allowed if she gives her consent.

Besides sinning by harassing and raping women, ISIS does haram by selling alcohol and drugs, which are both haram. This is one of the proofs that they do not trully respect the words of Allah s.w.t. and do not adhere to them, as they are doing what is forbidden.

5:5

And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers. And whoever denies the faith - his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

24:30

Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.

Men are to treat women with respect, and not stare at them or harass them (sexually or otherwise), and thus keep their chastity.

But... The way you quoted the Surat An-Nisa is wrong! It is the translation of Yusuf Ali, who added the word men into it!

4.16

And the two who commit it among you, dishonor them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is ever Accepting of repentance and Merciful

It refers to the previous Ayah, which starts with:

4:15

Those who commit unlawful sexual intercourse of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you.

It quite obviously refers to unlawful intercourse between a man and a woman.
This could also be used as an argument against the stoning of adulterers, since it preaches forgiveness.

And, in the end: Islam does forbid homosexuality, and sees it as an abomination, as is said in many Surat, for example:

7:81

Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.

But it does not mention or advocate stoning as punishment, except in mentioning that Allah s.w.t. has punished those who have commited sexual transgression in Sodom and Gomorah:

7:84

And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.

Now after I have said everything, I plead you not to shorten Ayahs or take them out of context when quoting them, and not to interpret the words of the Holy Quran in a literal sense, since it is easy to misinterpret it.

I hope that I was clear, and that this comment can clear up the confusion.
