TLDR: I fell victim to a Torn “Love Scam” where I was guilt-tripped and manipulated into parting with 1 billion.

I am writing to express my distraught in a recent scam I fell victim to which I once thought was an attempt to build a real connection with someone I had a liking to, only to find out that I was emotionally and mentally taken advantage of for personal gain.

Before anything else, I want to clarify that I am not writing to gain sympathy for my own faults and naivety in believing the words of someone I met online. Call me an idiot, a dumbass, or whatever, because I guess I kinda am one when looking back at it. But I’ve come to terms with the mistake I made and I will certainly make sure not to do the same again.

I am writing this to raise awareness—even if it comes at my own expense and humiliation—on how low scammers like TigerClaws [2495805] will go to gain at the expense of others, even going so low as to taking advantage of people’s emotions, manipulating, and guilt-tripping them for something immaterial in the real world like fictional cash.

Everything was going well for a while until he started asking for money. He asked me to lend him money for a week so he can get a rank trigger to reach the “Master” rank where he promised to return it in a week or two with 100mil, E-DVDs, and a DP for interest. I didn’t want to do it at first and I explained it was because of how Torn works and not because of anything I had against him. But that’s when the manipulation started.

It started with 500 million, then 300 million, and then 50 million where I drew the line and refused. The next day, he demanded 200 million instead of the prior 50 million he asked for to “prove myself” to him and that’s when I was guilt-tripped even further and forced to give in under psychological pressure.

Ironically, I met TigerClaws [2495805] after seeing his Torn Video Dating Competition submission where I saw how he looked like IRL which is why I took an interest (lol some date, huh?). He won second place and was awarded over 2 billion worth of prizes. It’s insane how that amount of money wasn’t enough that he had to con 1 billion from another person.

Now, I am a tolerant person. I know that the nature of Torn creates a tendency for scams to happen here and there. Had it been a transaction in the ordinary course of doing business or trade it would’ve been bearable at the very least. But to weaponize someone’s emotions and vulnerability under the false pretense of establishing a connection for money in a game is just a different kind of low.

I know I will not get my money back and this is a tough and expensive lesson for me to learn. I am only writing this post to call out this person for the type of character that they have and I hope the community will be careful with dealing with people like him on here so they don’t have to go through the experience of being conned out of something they worked really hard for.

Such a shame. I did all that because I genuinely liked and trusted the guy. I didn't think I'd be done dirty in return. I wish him all the best ig :((
