In the American Midwest, we call that a roll or a bread roll or a dinner roll (all interchangeable). Slice it in half and put something yummy between the halves and it magically becomes a bun, unless you only put butter in there. Then it's still just a roll. Or a bread roll. Or a dinner roll. In fact, put a thin burger patty between those halves and it's now a slider (aka belly bomber), like White Castle.
