- Chile has one of the highest costs of living relative to what people earn in South America
- Many depend on the public transport to get to their jobs and Santiago has a population of 5.6 million, to get from one place to another sometimes you spend over 2 hours, combining different means: bus, metro and paying for each trip
I am against violence, but this seems as a manifestation against inequality. But I cannot rule foreign meddling as Chile is one of the few countries in South America that has an elected president not inclined to socialism.
Finally, chilean economy relies heavily in commodities (copper) that have suffered a significant price drop in the global markets.
