Most Torn players think that a job is just another way of receiving more bonuses or perks. It is exactly that. You get paid $$$ daily, you get trained every other day or so, you can get Specials that can help you in many different ways, depending on the type of company you decide to work for. You can get plus factors for travel, for the gym, and on and on.
But that is the "receiving" side of having a job. I want to focus on what the JOB requires from YOU.
To be a valued employee, there is much more to the deal. So, if you want to be valued as an employee, keep reading. If not, don't waste your time reading any further. You are probably a casual player and, unfortunately, won't have any interest in pushing the company forward, but will just ride the wave others create. That's the "warm body" approach. It doesn't work.
In order to be a valued employee, there are many factors involved. I have them listed below with an explanation for each. They are all important, but Number 5 is the biggest, mainly due to the fact that most players don't think this is even a factor. For those, I would challenge you to test this out yourself! I have and I was amazed at the difference. So, employee or Director, test it out.
1.) You will need to be logged in every day to keep your "Lightening Bars" at 5. That keeps your effectiveness high.
2.) Your Happiness has a real affect on your job as well. Keep it as high as you can. Upgrade your dwelling, or step up to a PI as soon as you can. Whatever you live in, keep your happiness high.
3.) If you travel, keep in mind that travel time does NOT count as play time. If you travel, you still need to put in actual play time. (Travel time does not count because you aren't active. Nothing is making the game react or record, other than keeping your flight time.)
4.) Being logged in and chatting, scrolling through the market, or just sitting, is NOT play time. Only play time makes your MC (Monetary Contribution) go up. You have to be actively doing something. Do your crimes, hit the gym, buy something, sell something ... be active.
5.) Do your crimes and hit the gym 3 to 4 times a day if you can. The more the better. THIS IS A BIG ONE!
~ Far too many players think that this has no effect on a company. I can tell you it absolutely does! In a company roster, there is a position that, when you place an employee in it, will show you the MC (Monetary Contribution) for each employee. With that number you can see who is putting in the play time and who is not. When they up their play time, the MC goes up! This is the money the company makes. That is the company profit either going up, or down. The company income most all rides on this factor. ~
6.) Communicate ! ! ! If you're not going to be on for a day or so, let the Company Director know when and why. If you are contacted by the Director, get back to him. It's just respectful. And it's necessary.
7.) I totally missed this as I was writing this. Thanks to Hoentoe for reminding me!! Drug use. You can use drugs sparingly. If you use regularly there's a good chance you will form some level of addiction. That will have a negative affect on your job performance. The solution is a trip to Switzerland for drug rehab at a cost of $250k. For those that regularly use drugs, a trip a week may be necessary. It depends on your level of addiction. Once it reaches a certain level you will see a little "brain" at the top under information (where your education, marriage status, etc. is). But you may experience a negative effect before you see the brain symbol. You can monitor your addiction on your job page. Most Companies have a set limit they will expect you to stay under, like -10. Just rehab BEFORE you reach that number. Easy. Bottom line, the cleaner you stay, the higher your performance. And your fellow team members will appreciate it as it will help the Company grow.
Nothing here is hard. Nothing here is beyond any player doing. But it is all part of being a valued employee. So, before you take that job you want, be sure you're willing to do what is needed to be a valued employee. Being a hanger-on is just embarrassing! Or it should be!!
Building a solid team of valued employees is the key to a successful business. Make yourself a part of that team and work together to get that next STAR or the next SPECIAL. It's rewarding in more ways than just getting what you want. It's being part of what made it all happen!
