I have to assume that this was to destroy the trade in plushies and flowers.. just follow my logic.
Plushies and flowers derive their value from being easily convertible to points.
Traders buy flowers and plushies for a price calculated to bring a profit - so less than the price of the equivalent number of points but high enough to be worth while for people to fly and buy.
The price of points has fallen more than 10% since museum day and shows no sign of slowing.
The price of plushies and flowers are following this.
No real economist would have missed this link when planning such a large change.
Ergo - this is designed to destroy the trade in plushies and flowers along with cash from the economy.
Or the economist has less clue than Truss and Kwarteng did.
