Whelp. I'm throwing my hat in into the trading and seeing what happens.

I feel ive got some great rates, among the best in torn: https://weav3r.dev/pricelist/2492713

So take a look, and if i'm on reach out to me if interested.

Elimination · · 84 likes

I wanted to make this thread, cause i'm kind of proud of it! Despite being only 200 or so days old when elimination started, I managed 590 hits! Which was good enough for second place on my team (toothpaste) behind Jokur.

No idea what the record is for someone under a year old (I probably dont have it in terms of total hits cause we got bumped early. But maybe for place finishing on a team? Dont know if any newer folks have finished second.)

Either way, the experience was fun at times. Frustrating as hell at times. A ton of time and effort. But I learned a lot. And like i said im pleased with how i did.

tbh it depends. As long as you have the knowledge to value it properly and the discipline to not under-sell it, forum selling first is probably better because you're more likely to get a very high offer from someone who wants to lock it up. Plus even if you don't accept any of the offers (say you only accept something insanely high) it gets you a good sense of what people ARE willing to pay, so if the auction isn't going that high for whatever reason you can have the weapon pulled. Not to mention for elite weapons it 'advertises' it, so you're more likely to draw people to a later auction who otherwise wouldn't be looking.

Battle Stat Achievment! · · 66 likes

When I first started torn I remember being just very impressed by some of the absolute stat giants.  The boddybaggers for sure but even the people back then just seemed completely in a different league to newb me,with tens of billions of stats.  I remember my first year playing elimination and watching the top people on our team just operate on a different level.   Honestly, was inspiring and I remember after that first elimination making the goal of someday hitting the hof in stats.

Well, many years later, with plenty of ups and downs on the way, finally hit that mile marker today!  Officially broke into the top 250 landing a spot as the 246th most battle stats.

I'm just in awe i got there to be honest!  And am so excited by this achievement i wanted to share it.  Im sure tomorrow i'll get back to the grind and the next goal (top 100 someday?) but for now I just wanted to take the time to share this and celebrate it.  And also to thank everyone who has given me advice or help or support along the way (including the veteran players back in the day whom I know were very patient as I asked them endless questions)

tbh i think you miss the point.  If just being weak was enough to get to the top, there were plenty of other weak teams out there none of them got there.  I actually agree with you, we were far from the best fighting team.  SOmetimes the best fighting teams dont make it far either...  last year for instance I was on a team with an AMAZINGLY tight milcom running things (shout out to booniesheep) but they couldnt political outside a paper bag.  And we got eliminated somewhere in the middle.

A good team works with what you have and most teams have weaknesses and strong points. Gold Dust was somewhat sucky when it came to fighting compared to the lead teams.  A combo of who was on the team and lack of milcom experience organizing it.  I'd agree. That was our weakness.

Rocket scientists for instance you might argue had the reverse of our strengths and weaknesses.

If you think Gold Dust just stumbled into the number 2 place doing nothing by sorta Forest Gump luck you are pretty naive about how this game works.  They worked the backrooms and the politics ans maneuvered amazingly well.

Heck... if you consider how weak the team was you could make an argument that how they played their proverbial poker hand was MORE impressive.

Also if you think Apex (or any other group) didnt make mistakes you are also naive.  Apex (to their credit) are a great team and their mistakes were not fatal and they 100% deserve their win.  But they were hardly 'perfect'.

Gold Dust also made mistakes.  And yes there were plays where maybe they could have gotten 1st place with some luck.  But their play was also good enough to beat out 10 other teams and get second place.

Gold Dusts talents were NOT good enough for first place. And they were NOT in the throw down fighting realm.  But their talents in maneuvering let them beat most teams out there.   And they didnt get second place by pity or luck lol.

hah for years my shoe size was the same as my age.  But im also 6'7 so its proportional.  im sure im not the tallest in torn but im probably up there.  Which tbh isnt always a good thing.  Im sure ive lost 20 IQ points to banging my head on doorways over the years, and try folding yourself into tiny seats? Blehc. And for the shoe size... random fact you probably dont care about.  I have HUGE issues getting into the back seats of sedan cars.  Not cause of the leg room, but my feet legit don't fit in the entry space between door and seat, so i need to bend over and like drag my feet into the car.

An ex of mine used to drive a fiat too...  which actually in the front seat is surprisingly roomy, but if you want to see a laughable sight look at the 6'7 guy (who isnt skinny tall either) folding himself in and out of that.

Tall people problems.

I mean there are lots of ways to look at this.  TBH I actually have been impressed with Gold Dusts performance.  I mean would i have loved a number one finish? 100% yes.  And I think there was probably a window for it.  But if you had asked me at the start about being number 2? I'd be over the moon.  I genuinely think in terms of fighting ability we were one of the weaker teams... but through good plotting, leadership, manuevering, etc, we are likely to be number 2.  That isnt just luck.  Would a betrayal at the right moment have gotten us a win? Maybe yeah, might not have mattered either though.

Way I look at it every team is going to have weak points and strong points, and every leader will have mistakes and achievements.  Question is will the leader have more successes than failures.

Considering what we had to work with ive been beyond impressed with how gold dust performed.  In a game as cut throat as this, sure luck may matter but luck alone isnt getting you to the top 2.  You can lament not winning the whole thing fair, but I have a ton of respect for how far we did come.

Bust Book: How Exactly Does it Worl? ·

Hey all,  i'm curious if anyone has any experience with the busting book?  Before using it im trying to get a better sense of how it works.  As in does it increase the cap of how many busts you can do before hitting your 'cap'?  Or is it just making it more likely to succeed in busts and not end in jail below the cap?

Any guidance on the best way to leverage this from others who have used it would be much appreciated

Is there any point in doing Arson? · · 2 likes

I mean there's a lot of crimes i dont bother with once i get all the merits and max the skill?  Im sure a lot you dont too.  Thats fine.

I think its probably premature to talk about value with this one because the income is so dependent on the supplies.  Once a couple of hot new crimes come out the profit ratio will look radically different from this.  Plus.. well a few thoughts:

  1. Remember theres going to be dozens of crimes once this is complete.  Most of them will be ones you work on as part of the 'ladder' so to speak not your go to eveyr day one.  They cant all be that of course
  2. There is probably a good argument to make if at the end of the day 1-2 arsons, 1-2 disposals etc are good profit.. if you care about money that's actually a good thing.  If you think about it if thats probably actually the better way to design it if you want more crimes to stay somewhat relevant long term once skill is maxed out
  3. As mentioned for something so reliant on market value the long term rate of return is going to be very hard to pin down until a few more crimes have come out
  4. With dozens of crimes by definition not everyone will be the best return for money.  And money isnt the only reason to do these crimes (merits, ce for example)

Why is arson Vandalism and no Illicit services? · · 2 likes

I find the argument silly tbh because its mostly geared not about deeply caring about the crime classification but about merits.

But as a community, I LIKE that some merits will take you a year to grind. IT makes it more valuable.  Like I actually value my bust merits (still grinding that) or my slots merit preciesly because I had to work hard for them.  I couldn't even name some of the easy ones i got.  Im not saying you don't want easy ones too, but having a mix is nice imo.

Plus tbh the logic makes no sense since we have NO cimes for some categories (extortion and illigal production) so frankly before I was worried about a second illicit crime id love to see one that counted for those coming in.

We have a city to burn - Crimes 13 Info Dump ·

sure but some categories for merits have 0 crimes?

for disposal a others said if you did it daily you'd be there.  Ive missed a few days but otherwise been daily and am a few hundred from 10k.

And for that matter i think its a good thing that some of these merits are grindy while some are easy. becomes meaningless if its all easy

Artificially inflating price of items · · 3 likes

A fair question, but the problem is that this is a 'renewable resource'.  As in theres more coming in at large volume all the time and in fact the more people need it (so the more folks traveling to SA to buy it cause its off the market) the FASTER it renews.  So as in you would expect a relationship that as it becomes scarcer in the market, more people travel to SA, and thus more total xanax enters the system (since the speed at which it is bought determines its restocking).

So the problem is, if you bought up all the xanax on the market it WOULD drive the price up for a time.  But you wouldnt be the one to benefit since it would require you buying a lot of insanely highly priced xanax to clear the market and then you have all this xanax you actually need to sell at a loss. Since while the price would rise since more is coming in, it 1) wouldnt rise as much as you think (i.e a significant rise but not anywhere near the rate you would have paid. 2) it will quickly drop back down again.

The only times ive seen market manipulation work in this game, are with items that had controlled quantities.  For example I remember some people manipulating the old beer system and also with old museum day (kind of pointless now) the sheep/teddy bear market.  Again though that was because there was a finate amount that wasnt CRAZY high coming in each day.  But even then, it took an insane amount of work and I think the people doing it would probably have earned more doing any other income earning activity.

Prices for some predictable items do rise and fall in broad categories.. so less market manipulation and more prediction.  Like we all know the price of cans will plummet post halloween/christmas.  But even then I normally rec people dont sit on things waiting for the best time in the cycle.  Since the reality is for 99% of torn players, the rate of return on just selling the item and investing it in your bank or stocks will be greater then sitting on the money (earning no income) for like 10 months until the right moment in the market cycle.  Im sure there are people with so much wealth and nothing to put it in that this won't be the case for... but for most of us no.

MY two cents anyway

Bazaar Directory RELEASED ? · · 4 likes

tbh the bazaar change had imo pretty clear consensus of not being wanted.  Nothing is ever 100% in life but that was pretty clear cut.

It is just objectively bad on several levels. Theres the issue that it wasnt broken before and no one was asking for a fix.  There's the issue that the current system relies entirely on addons and doesnt function as ched was describing it.  that most traders dont WANT the function ched is trying to create.

It is fine for a game to have difficult aspects but to change systems that work into ones that just... don't... to create 'realism' or 'difficulty' is just kinda silly.

Bazaar Directory RELEASED ? · · 10 likes

I mean look at the end of the day i get ched wants it and its his game.  But i do feel like these changes took something that wasnt broken and mangled it.  And that the vision really isnt comparable with how trading works.  Like in an intellectual vacume i actually get it and sure that sounds cool.  But I do feel it ignored the on the ground reality of things and the warnings of people who actually operated in the market and trading.

The specific bazaar directory is just kinda pointless and i suspect wont be bothered with once the novelty wears off other than a bragging right hof type thing.

And the actual system went from perfectly fine to a mangled wreck of shadow markets addons etc for no real gain or reason.

But I suppose just gotta hope once the reality of how screwy it is sinks in that there actually will be openness to fixing the mess.  Or if not I suppose yo soldier on and do work arounds.

I do think it is very telling though when you make updates and the immediate reaction of all the players who use it is to try and create addons that undo the change you made.

I'm not much of a cache guy but.... ·

congrats! very nice

How many bounties before it's harassment? · · 1 like

Here is the honest advice I give to every new player with this sort of issue (bounties, mugs, attacks, etc).

Right or wrong this is part of torn.  There's no magic recourse.  Think of navigating it as one of the challenges of the game (you coordinate jumping out and jamming training for a few seconds every x hours).  One of the basic challenges of torn is navigating these sorta things.  Sure it will get less as you grow, but it never goes away.

Don't give it attention.  Making this thread tbh was the wrong move.  Any attention (positive or negative) is going to encourage more actions against you.  People bountying you are doing so because they WANT to piss you off.  It may decrease as you get larger but it won't go away.  Ever.  The best revenge is to have 0 reaction and go about your life.  It might take days, it might take weeks. But eventually folks will move on if you don't call attention to it.  Even rich players have better things to do with their life then spend months and millions on people who don't matter to them and appear not to care.  Don't react and people will eventually move on.

Every post you make arguing about it, complaining about it, etc... right or wrong... it shows the people annoyed at you that what they are  doing is working.  I would stop posting about it and stop arguing about it.

Find yourself a good faction with an active community.  Not because they will fix this problem for you (don't expect that), but it will give you a safe place and safe people to talk to about how to grow, navigate these sort of things, etc.

After you do the above just focus on the parts of the game you enjoy and view the parts you don't, like bounties and mugging, as just a hazzard of life.

Anyway my advice take it or leave it;

Someone is bullying me into giving them beers · · 3 likes

You honestly will probably be fine to just ignore them.  beers are pretty cheap these days so anyone trying to extort you is going to also be pretty new.  Just ignore them and focus on your own growth they will either move on or you'll quickly outpace them if they are wasting energy attacking folks over beer.

One of the tricks to torn early on imo is also to just not engage with people who are problems.  Attention (positive or negative) tends to encourage them.  Getting attacked randomly is a part of the game to an extent.. I know it can be a culture shift depending on other games before you came here.  But in TORN it is just part of the experience.  If you ignore the people bothering you and go about your business for the most part they tend to eventually leave you alone and move on to others.
